Oil Pan |

| Do BOSS 302 Oil Pans have you
baffled? Not sure which is the right one for your car? You've been searching for the
correct part but nothing has panned out? |
| Just like there were two model
years of BOSS 302 cars there were two versions of BOSS 302 oil pans, 1969 and 1970. The
1969 oil pan assembly (When you take an oil pan and add things like a baffle and drain
plug it becomes known as an oil pan assembly in Ford lingo.) received engineering part
number C9ZE-6675-H. In the partial print shown below you can see it starts out with a
basic 289 oil pan with part number C5AE-6676-D and then the baffle, C9ZE-6687-D, is welded
in later. |
 |
| Thus, the correct oil
pan assembly for the 1969 BOSS 302 has a flat bottom, baffle inside and should be stamped
with "C5AE-6676-D" and a date code. The original service part number would be
C9ZZ-6675-? Sorry, don't know the suffix. When you think about it, the 1969 BOSS 302 oil
pan might be hard to find given the low volume of 1969 BOSS 302 cars and the fact that
this part was replaced for 1970 and superceded for service by the 1970 service part,
D0ZZ-6675-A. It is possible though that the C5AE oil pan stamping was continued for
service for many years and with the addition of a baffle was shipped as D0ZZ-6675-A so
these pans might not be rare at all. |
| Things changed for
1970. The 1970 oil pan assembly received engineering part number D0ZE-6675-A. Like the
1969 oil pan assembly, it started life as something else. D0OE-6675-C can be seen below in
the lower right as the main part number in this drawing title block while D0ZE-6675-A
shows in the notes in the left column. |

|
| Here's the note
specifying the addition of the baffle which made the D0OE-6675-C become D0ZE-6675-A. |
 |
| Note the strange
looking curves near the rear of the 1970 oil pan. |
 |
| The strange curves
turn out to be indentations as can be seen in the outside photo at right and the inside
photo below. |
