Title: Stolen 1970 Boss 302 from Concord, NC -- VIN 0T02G118146 (Calypso/Vermillion)
Post by: priviello119@gmail.com on June 17, 2013, 09:59:08 pm
Fellow Boss 302'ers,

I am in the midst of a difficult divorce and on June 11, 2013 I became aware that my 1970 Boss 302 with VIN 0T02G118146 was not in the garage at the marital residence where the future ex is staying.  She may have sold it (this was my car before marrying her and she did not have the title), but my attorney had me file a stolen vehicle report with the Concord, NC police.

The VIN has not been titled or registered in NC or nationally at this moment and an alert is out so that it cannot be titled.

If anyone has information on this vehicle please call me or the Concord, NC police at 704-920-5000.

Thank you!!!

Paul Riviello

Ebay ad was from December.  Interesting to see how this will be resolved.  Good luck on your search

Thank you for the replies leading to the Ebay ad circa December 2012.  There is a picture taken of the interior with the driver's door open.  THAT IS MY CAR!!!  I immediately recognized the red ribbon hanging off the brake release lever (my dear departed mom always wanted my cars to have that to keep me safe).

I am not versed in Ebay.... how do I see if the car was sold?  who the seller was?   who the buyer was?  Selling price?   Etc??

I bought this Boss 302 in April 1980 and have grown very attached to it!  It is a great unrestored, unmolested Boss.

Thank you all for your continued help.

I would take that EBay auction number and give it to your local authorities.  They likely have the best way to contact EBay.

CaBossFan,
You are correct.  That information was kindly sent to me by gb70boss302 this afternoon.  Thanks to you both.

Nitro,
You bet I will.  I am almost overwhelmed by the outpouring of well-wishes, advice, and information from this group.  No way I can possibly repay.  I have optimism about the outcome.

Progress is being made on locating my Boss 302 with VIN 0T02G118146 as we are preparing the Subpoena for eBay.  Slow, but that is how the legal system works.

Need some help:  Did anyone happen to bookmark, or save, the eBay auction (auction number was 300828801205 for 0T02G118146) from back in December?  I would like to see all the pictures that were in the ad along with the Seller Info.

Thank you

EBay only make the data available for 90 days.  You need to use the auction number and VIN and get that data through your local authority.  One option is to use one of those site that track historical auction data for valuation purposes.    However, it is probably worth waiting for the subpoena.

This thread had a photo that was snagged from the ebay listing.

I did contact him; the pic was extracted from the eBay auction.  Does not have the other pics or auction details.

Thanks to all for your thoughts.  I posted an ad on CraigsList as Reward for Information..... on my missing Boss.  The more eyes and ears there are on this the better.  I am confident the car will be found.

I have been trying to get in contact with Mikel Grady.  He was inquiring about my car back in December and I would like to see what he knows, maybe he has a hard copy of the eBay auction for my car.

If anyone knows Mikel please have him respond here or directly to me at priviello119@gmail.com.

I have a favor to ask of the group.....  Could someone scan the page from a 1980's edition of the Registry showing my VIN  0T02G118146 and name (although it is spelled wrong; shows as "Rivielle" I think) and the page with the date of publication and email to me at priviello119@gmail.com or post here -- whatever is more convenient.  Should show city as Belleville, Mi.  Thank you!

I am not sure if this would be useful.  It is a 92 registry for sale - seems pricey.

Who is the keeper of the Boss 302 Registry?   Would it be possible for that person to see when I registered  0T02G118146 with the Registry  (should be 1980 or 1981)?

Otherwise I just need a copy of the page with my VIN in a Registry that is older than 1990.

Thanks!

Without going into detail because of litigation, I will say that this coming week is very important with some significant meetings and court dates.

I hope to be able to share some news of progress by the end of the week.  Keep your fingers crossed.

You know, I seem to remember meeting [talked with on the phone] someone from the detroit area stripping a Boss 302. He told me some cockamamie story about why he was stripping it, I didn't believe all the story, but he was selling everything, cheap and in great condition, I seem to remember him saying it was grabber blue though.

I just read your posting on the Madison, WI Craig's List for the stolen Boss. If it shows up somewhere here, I'll make sure to get a hold of some law for you. I hope everything goes well for you. The vin really helps and should make it tough to unload this car.
Good luck.

You can also scan all of craigslist for boss mustangs for sale.  Google search something like this:

Code: [Select]
site:craigslist.org  1970 OR 70 boss 302

You will get a lot of parts but, for the few cars that show up, you could call.   It is unfortunate that craigslist doesn't have a "search all regions" option.

Hi everyone,

I have not been posting lately simply because there is not much new to report.  I am waiting for some legal issues to resolve so that we can send the subponea to eBay for information on who the Seller / Buyer were for the auction in December 2012.  The legal system is frustratingly slow.

I have had some leads from the many CraigsList ads that I have place all around the country, but none have panned out.  Please stay vigilant and keep your eyes and ears open!

I would still like to talk with Mikel Grady, Mikel can you PM or call me please.

EBay only make the data available for 90 days.  You need to use the auction number and VIN and get that data through your local authority.  One option is to use one of those site that track historical auction data for valuation purposes.

Kev

What site does this? I have not heard of that before. Do you mean we can find old ebay auctions for cars we wish we would have purchased?

I think he means the big auctions like Barrett and Russo.

The legal system does work very slowly, but it works when you have lots of documents!

Continued good luck.

Have not located the car yet and do not have the information from eBay as to who was the seller from the auction in December 2012.  It is the lack of information from eBay that is the most frustrating.....eBay will not talk to me directly, they will only deal with law enforcement agencies.  The Concord, NC police department had wrongly convinced themselves that the car was marital property, so they were doing nothing on the case.  I now have a court document that states the car was my separate property and still the Concord police are doing nothing!!  Very frustrating, so much for "serve and protect".... this is such an open and shut case but only it they get started.

I cannot wait for Sheriff Taylor and Barney Fife to get going, so I have contacted the Charlotte office of the FBI, plan to contact the Attorney General of NC, and have a plan to get to eBay through another route..... so stay tuned.

I again ask if anyone has information from the auction in December (eBay auction # 300828801205) as to who the seller was, please let me know.

Thank you to all of you who have been following this story and offering well wishes.

Paul

That sucks that your law enforcment is dragging there ass.  Theres a real shocker in this world right.  The police are always present to arrest and right tickets so they make money but god forbid if they actually helped you with a problem.  I see MikelGrady hasn't been on the registry in sometime.  He was last active over a month ago.  Doubt you will be hearing from him anytime soon.

Mikel Grady asked the group at large if anyone had information about my Boss when it was for sale on eBay.  May seem like no big deal, but maybe Mikel made a hard copy of the auction, or talked to the seller, or remembers who the seller was, or where the car was when it was for sale, etc.

He may have some important information which he does not realize he possesses.

Attention Boss owners in the New Hampshire and Maine area.....

Recently, I have received information on an unrestored 1970 Boss 302 that is now undergoing restoration in either New Hampshire or Maine!

If anyone is aware of engine work being done at a machine shop, or body work underway - or recently done (in the last 8-12 months), or a customer ordering Boss parts, etc.... Please let me know by any means you can (call, text, PM on the Boss site, email).  My gut tells me we are getting close!  Thank you all!

Looking for verification that this is my car with VIN  0T02G118146

I thought that Mikel Grady was an undertaker/funeral home owner in Indiana.

Maybe google that combo and see if a phone number turns up...you never know.

As a thought, a title would have to be generated for this car. Perhaps check a couple of states DMV to see if that VIN number has appeared recently.

Something like this occurred over in the MOPAR camp with the wheel-standing General Lee. The article on its retrieval might give you some additional tools in tracking down your Boss.

Best of luck in finding your ride. Let us know how things turn out.

Hi Everyone....

OK, here is the news that I - and many of you - have been waiting to hear.....

My car has been located and it is in Eagle Lake, Maine.  Dangerously close to Canada.  I will not list the names of the two guys involved with the car, because this is still a dynamic situation.

The person who purchased the car from my wife has also come forward and has been very cooperative.

I have written to the NC Attorney General, Roy Cooper, and have asked for his help in my case, so I remain hopeful that this story will have a happy, reunited, ending.

Regards and thanks to all for your continued interest and support.

You attorney should institute a civil lawsuit against your soon to be ex for conversion, the buyer of your car should then "join" that lawsuit as an intervener with an action against her for fraud.

The local police and prosecutor's office should be given copies of all evidence, and she SHOULD be charged with motor vehicle theft, forgery and uttering.  Through the civil case, the judge MIGHT be inclined to make a call over to the prosecutor's office on his own volition to insist that they take action.

Good luck with a messed up situation, if you were in California I would gladly help you out.

I wasn't going to say anything, but noticed, he hasn't been on since his last post, the 13th of September. We had been in contact up until then. I located the car in Northern Maine for him and gave him the name of the parties involved. I have tried to reach him multiple times and his voicemail no longer plays a message. I hope all is well with him and everything worked out. I think it sucks some people hovered on here that were asked for info, but ran and hid as they have in the past. The rest of you I commend for the effort you put forth to help him... Hopefully he was reunited with his car. Have a great Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas!!

I found the car for the guy here in Maine. There's A LOT of shady stuff with this car. Which as I dug into it became clear to me. I extended a lot of time and effort into finding the car and reaching out to the man who lost this car in the divorce. Best I can tell is one of 2 things. Either 1, he never really had 100% ownership to start with and that's why he never got it back (As he couldn't secure title or registration to it) or 2, the new owner in Eagle Lake, Maine made good on the car and compensated him for it properly. Either way, his phones been disconnected and I never received my finders fee. Oh well, life goes on.

This note is really for fajr22 - I do appreciate the help you gave me. I pursued this in a variety of ways, but I cannot share what has been attempted up to this point.  I have had a low profile for a while but that is not the same as hiding.  Let me know how to get you your locators fee.  You can reach me here or at priviello119@gmail.com
For the record, this is my car.  Check the Boss 302 Registry; I think I registered it in summer of 1980.
Thanks to all of you for your support.

Good for you Paul. Looks like Fred did a lot of work and really deserves what he was promised.
It is always a good thing to keep your word.
If you Google your VIN once or twice a week, you can see if it comes up for sale any where on the internet. I am sure that most of the guys and gals on the site will keep watch for you.
Good luck
Frank

Good luck with everything as far as your car goes.   Also,  glad you are getting fajar22 taken care of.    As stated, google your vin at least 4 times a week to watch for sales on it.

Again, thanks to everyone.  This story has now been read over 10,000 times -- I think that is absolutely amazing!!
I'm here to tell you that our legal system (at least here in North Carolina) is horrible..... even the simplest things take forever.  The legal battle for my car will be an interstate deal, so I am prepared for a long, drawn-out, and expensive of course, undertaking.

PS:  On a Mustang note, I visited with Lee Holman recently and saw his 50th Anniversary tdf Mustang.  It looks really nice in person.

Regards,

Paul Riviello

Is there a Mustang fan out there who is also an attorney licensed to practice law in Maine to help me with this lawsuit?

That's great to hear Paul. I'm sorry I've been away from the forum chasing the ever elusive classic cars of all breeds. I came on today looking at the lost and found blocks hoping to find my uncles and saw this post had updated to the main page. Actually I can give you a name of an attorney in Bangor, Maine whose husband is an avid car guy. She works for Gilbert & Grieff, her name is Julie Farr. She likely can point you in the right direction. Honestly the chase of finding these old cars is always more fun then the victory. The story of me finding your car was actually very amusing. It honestly was an annoyance.... Everytime I typed in 70 Mustang/BOSS/fastback for a month, your story would come up... I was like Ayiyi, this guy will never find this thing. Then one day I got a call about a car in my area, that I had never seen or heard of, then I started piecing what little you gave me, and chased the car all over the country side???? Litterly, once I relayed to you this car didn't need to be titled in Maine, that blew it wide open. Then I chased my sources to where the car was located. I was up there last September by the way #ENDOFTHEWORLD... I verified it and confirmed it through locals, as to it's existence and who had it. It really was exciting with only a few minor bumps in the road and I'm glad, what was once an annoyance has become a light at the end of the tunnel for you. It was never about the finders fee, it was about a man like yourself who went through a divorce and lost everything he had. You deserve your car back and I'm just glad you clarified the last few missing pieces of the puzzle. Have a great day and I hope to hear from you.

Feel free to call, email, or text anytime
Sincerely Fred Ashmore

This is just unbelievable that the law moves this slow in this case. To me, this is very simple as I would take my title to Maine and see the local authority. The seller should at least have a bill of sale or proof of purchase and who it was bought from. It is that simple at least for me living in a state that has title for motor vehicles and if one should buy a car, trailer, etc from a state that does not have a title requires a bill of sale and local law enforcement vin Id verification. Why would anyone need an attorney for this, if you have a legal title showing ownership. Just the me being stupid, go repo and take it home. LMAO.
