Title: BOSS Reunion 2019 DATE & LOCATION & HOTEL & SCHEDULE - Watch here for updates
Post by: 1966GTA on November 17, 2017, 06:12:45 am
50th Anniversary BOSS Reunion:
After some searching we have settled in on a joint event and a facility that we think will accommodate the 50th anniversary.  Randy and I discussed various options and we both felt it was important to combine the Boss Reunion with another event.  Joining another event will greatly help facilitate the reunion.  Our choice is to team with Auto Interests, a group that manages many high performance driving experience (HPDE) events - in addition they produce a specific event called Car Fest.  Car Fest is an annual event that was previously held at the Mid-Ohio track.  In 2018 Car Fest will move to the Pittsburg International Race Complex (PittRace).  This year 2017, I attended the Car Fest at Mid-Ohio, the Auto Interest group ran a good event which included track days, auto cross, live band and a car show.
I also made a site visit to Pitt Race.  In comparison to Mid-Ohio the Pitt Race facility and surrounding area offers more on-site space, easier access, and better hotel options.  Auto Interest has made the decision to move Car Fest to Pitt Race for 2018 and 2019.
Holding the 50th Anniversary BOSS Reunion as “an event in an event” will greatly help us organize and coordinate.   Auto Interest can manage on-line registration, they carry insurance which is required by all venues and they can help with pre-event communication and on-site event management.
By combining the events we will get options to drive on track, option to participate in the auto X activity.  BOSS cars will have their own designated show car area, host hotel and more than likely our own banquet.  We are starting to build and confirm details and will update on the forum as information becomes available.
I anticipate posting a link for a survey which I strongly encourage everyone to take.  This survey will help with determining specific participation numbers to help secure the proper host hotels, help us gage the interest for each individual activity and get individual input.  It is very important to get your comments and a survey is a very good way to accomplish that.  Of course, you may always post your comments on the forum.  But a strong survey response will gather and sort the information into an easy to read format.
Please take a look at the web sites listed below.  The sites will give you a look at the venue and provide information about the event partner.  Thanks, please let us know what you think.  I am really looking forward to helping plan the 2019 event!

It conflicts with my local club hosting the 2019 MCA Grand National.  I guess I will be attending in spirit.

Sounds good to me since my son lives in Pittsburgh.  But... I still think it should be centrally located, like Tulsa, so nobody has an excuse not to attend.  I hate it for the west coast members as I know if it was held in LA I would definitely be a no show.

I might fly out though, we'll see.
Glad you got it sorted out, sounds like a lot of fun...

I understand you can't please everyone, but being from Seattle, this would be difficult to drive to this location. Having your BOSS Mustang present is an important part of a gathering like this. For the 50th anniversary of the Mustang in 2014, MCA had two events, one on the East coast, one on the West coast. I am sure this is the equivalent of have one migraine vs. having two migraines, but I thought I would post this idea since I know there are a lot of BOSSES in the Western states that will not attend due to Pittsburgh being too far away. The date of 2019 is still far away enough, that finding something for the people out here could be possible. Thanks,    :'(   Mark

Pitt Race is an awesome facility, I run my 2012 Boss 302 LS there all the time plus it's just 20 minutes from my house. You guys will love the track & the facility in general...plus there's a lot to do in the area: breweries & such. Great choice! I was at Mid Ohio for the 2017 Auto Interest & it's a great event! Having a Boss reunion on the west coast, then one in the central US, & one on the east coast really helps everyone because there's no way i could make a west coast or even a central US event, as I'm sure theres people on the west coast that can't make a central US one or an east coast one.

Looking forward to this guys! I'd put you all up at my place here but my wife might not like it ;)

This sounds fantastic...but its too far east for me. I would have loved to bring my 69 but I just couldn't. Oh well, maybe the west coast guys can take it upon themselves to organize and "unofficial" 50th reunion. That one I would attend WITH my car.

Too bad, I was hoping the 50th would have been more central so I could bring my car. Have fun anyway guys!

Any reason why you wouldn't choose to combine this event with an MCA or SAAC event?

It would just make it a lot easier for those of us that are committed to MCA & SAAC shows.  And since 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Mach I, the Grande, the Boss 429 & 302, the last GT, and the last Shelby Mustang, my guess is that Ford, Shelby American, and other key industry players were planning to come out in a big way.  Might be a bit diluted if they have to do it in several locations.

Labor Day weekend is usually an MCA Grand National Show, and although 2019 is an anniversary year (55th, no Grand National), at least one club has applied for a National Show that weekend.

I was actually hoping for a Boss Reunion in Dearborn

Hey guys I really appreciate your effort ---- but there are Mustangs every where in the US. I know you can never please every one but just like the MCA putting almost all of the events on the east coast really eliminates a lot of us. How about a more central location.  Sturgis, SD, Mustang, OK , or ????

Based on all the Reunions we had, Carlisle, Tulsa, Knotts Berry, Dearborn we looked at attendance and cars showing up. Pittsburgh was in between the 2 highest attended events. We knew we couldn’t please everyone. Carlisle was a really close 2nd choice. But no track.

Lisa has been known for doing a really good job and has supported us since the ‘05 event is when we first got to know her. She’ll make it worthwhile for the ones who are able to attend.

We are still open for suggestions for things to do or think about for this event.

Mark,
The thing to do would probably be to have the West Coast Boss reunion at Monterey in conjunction with the Vintage Races at Laguna Seca. A 'Boss only' section in the car corral would be easy, and assuming it wasn't an off year for the Historic Trans Am series, their appearance would be a great draw. The only drawback to the whole thing would be rooms (and the cost).... Heck, it would give me a reason to fly out there in 2019.

Thank you for your efforts and reaching a decision.
Now it is up to us to participate and make the Reunion a success.
Tough to please everyone when we are spread out over a continent. It sounds like there is enough interest from people in the west to have their own show. I hope that could happen as I would certainly consider attending it as well if the dates did not conflict.

Certainly understand the concern of distance and expense from the west coast, perhaps coming without the car and flying into Pittsburg would be a next best option.  As for the Pittsburg Race track I think everyone will find that facility to be top notch.  Auto Interests is a really nice group to work with and they are being very accommodating.  We already have a confirmation to be allowed to do a Boss only Parade lap on the track.  A group photo is a must.   It was important to set a date and location so final plans can be made and everyone can start making arrangements for their personal schedules.  Looking forward to a great turnout.  Thanks for your comments.

Lisa and I thought it important to have a date set about 2 years out. SAAC doesn’t always have plans set this far out. This making it hard to coincide with them.

This was to help owners finish cars that might be in the middle of a restoration.

It also helps in ideas and plans giving lots of time to adjust.

This is good news for us as it’s about a 4 hour drive from home.
We’ve never been to this facility, but it sounds very promising. We are excited and looking forward to it and our whole fam’ is in-

This will be the first time (and prob’ the last- until after we’ve moved) we will be showing one of our BOSS cars in public. I’m pretty sure the wife’s 302 won’t be ready by then so that will stay home, but we’ll trailer the 429 up.

We won’t be entering any show competitions as there will most likely be some much nicer concourse correct cars than ours being presented, but that won’t stop us from having a ton of fun!

Although these may be premature at this time- few questions:

What will be the total day(s) of the event and the hours?

Since we will be bringing a trailer, will there be a safe place we can park it?

Will the car display area be secure overnight, or will we be responsible for removing our car during that time?

We are considering bringing our vintage camper- depending on hotel/motel costs and trip costs. We could be bringing the camper, a trailer and 2 tow vehicles.
Will there be a camping area?

We would like to give a big thanks to you and your cohorts for undertaking this massive endeavor and getting it to this point of completion. We’re sure it will be a major hit and an event that will be remembered and cherished for generations.

Thank you!

If you want to do a tag along might look into tying it onto/with Norcal's Mini-Nats. Wine country rooms are maybe a little cheaper, often half a parking lot empty .......  SAAC is doing it next year.

Just a thought, unless you want to organize a separate event.

We have not yet worked out specific details on days, hours, activities etc.  But I can tell you that we will have the option to leave trailers on site at Pitt Race, they have standard security and Auto Interest's staff stays on site overnight.  We would also have the option to hire a designated person to stay with our Boss trailers.  Also camping is allowed but I need to get specific details.  As for joining with another event that is taking place in the same time frame and location we are certainly open to that idea.  Once we get a survey circulated and review the responses it will give us some direction and guidance to what is wanted.  Thanks for the comments.

Um, Pitt Race is a real road course...its a great track & facilities & to be honest it's an overall better complex than Mid-Ohio is so really, why bash it? The Trans-Am series is racing there in 2018 as well. So seriously, don't knock it unless you've been there.

The show you are joining is a all makes show correct? Why would you have an important thing like the 50th anniversary at a all makes show? Is the road course the main reason? How many people are going to use it for anything but a photo op. Have you guys spoken with Ford about any plans or ideas? For the Cougar 50th at World headquarters the Cougars were parked under the solar panels, very cool and shade all day. I live in Fl. so the distance is closer than Dearborn, but I don't think I will be attending with my 69 boss Cougar. I'm really glad I did two of the 50th anniversary Cougar shows.

Yes Car Fest is an all make, model event.  However, the Boss Reunion will have a designated area for showing and displaying Boss only vehicles. " A show within a show".  We not only will have access to track activities which should appeal to the 2012 and 2013 owners, there will also be activity for Auto X, and possible drag racing. Which will provide more excitement than a static show and shine event.  I truly believe this event could bring in 200 plus cars.  Pitt Race facility will provide the necessary room needed for a large group.  Dealing with potential high numbers can be very difficult to manage, need for insurance, fee processing, staffing etc.  Auto Interests can assist us with all pre registration and of course they carry insurance.  If you have never managed an event I understand that you would not know all the pre planning logistics and behind the scene needs.  In todays world it is important to have insurance, electronic processing and staffing to manage an event.  We are not an established event company and Auto Interests will be providing a great deal of assistance in areas that we need help make this reunion a success.  Thanks for your comments and hopefully you will decide to attend.

Hi Dave, long time!  Hope all is well.
I've got a list of quit a bit of the Ontario owners and will see if they would be interested in a procession from Ontario to the event.
Thoughts?

Maybe MCA will have a 50 year Boss reunion in conjunction with a 55 year Mustang celebration at a major venue like they did in Charlotte and Vegas ;) MCA anniversary shows have always been around April 15th.

It's official, MCA will host a 55 year Mustang anniversary show in July of 2019 in Kansas with road racing , drag racing , concours judging  and special 50th anniversary event for the Boss Mustang! Indoor facility for judging and special displays. I will post more info soon. This show should be spectacular with a huge turnout like all the other anniversary MCA events. The swap meet should be outstanding as well.

                                                                                                                               I'm pumped for this one!

I agree.
BTW, my worthless two cents…
I give an 'A' for effort, yet an 'F' for execution. Let me explain. (Yes, I understand you can't please everyone….) However, by 'only' having this event on the east coast, you just alienated most members who happen to live on the west coast. A much more plausible approach would have been to (as mentioned) combine it with another event, such as the MCA/SAAC/local open track event/show in the central portion of the US. This way, its accessible for both coasts. Maybe next year, this can be arranged. Just me...

Just got my 2012 Boss LS, and cannot wait to attend this event. I live in Pittsburgh, and Pitt Race is my home track. I have tracked my former GT Mustangs there for many years, and now my 911. It is an outstanding track, very technical in places, and fast on the back stretch. Really cool and coincidental that this event is occurring here, just when I got this car!
Title: Re: BOSS Reunion 2019 DATE & LOCATION & HOTEL & SCHEDULE - Watch here for updates
Post by: linderpat on December 19, 2018, 09:56:32 am
Also, just read through all of the threads here. A couple of observations:

First, as to the holding the event at Pitt Race, this is the best location for everyone on this side of the country. There is no good way to hold these things somewhere in the middle, like SD (as somebody suggested). When that happens, the upshot is that hardly anyone can go, as it is too far for either the east coast or west coast crowd. (I lived a number of years in Montana, and it is a really big empty country out in the middle - SD is endlessly empty). Better option is to aternate the event between the coasts, and occassionally in the middle like the Chicago or St Louis areas.

Second, as to the track, it is situated out in the country, and is a large, fenced facility. It is secure, and there is very little activity around it (almost no development). There is wide open space for camping, and many people do. There is tons of room for trailers, and electrical hook ups. All in all, it is a good place to bring your car and leave it there, and stay there too if you want to camp. There are not a lot of hotels real close though. You'll have to drive 20 minutes down the PA Turnpike to Cranberry to get into the bigger hotels.

Third, again as to the track, it is owned by a couple who co-own VIR. So for the guy that suggested Pitt Race isn't a "real track" and we should instead go to VIR, well, come and see it. These owners know what they are doing. It is a 2.8 mile outstanding road course, recently repaved, with excellent elevation changes, a few "blind" rises that'll make your hair stand on end, excellent esses and passing zones, and very good run-off for the more aggressive drivers who like to explore the limits (ask me how I know;-)). Since this track changed ownership several years ago and expanded into the south track, there have been a good number of significant events held there. I've driven Watkins Glen (best of the best), Summit Pouint and others out west, and Pitt Race is as good as any.

This will be a fun event! Looking forward to seeing all the cool Boss'!

Boss Reunion 2019 Registration is now active.  The BOSS Reunion web site will provide the event schedule along with registration and pricing.  Boss Registration page allows you to register for the BOSS specific activities. CarFest Registration is where you go to register for non-Boss specific activities such as the HPDE, Karting, Flashlight drags and more.
Pre-registration is important it will help Randy and myself properly prepare and coordinate the event activities.  Thank you, we look forward to seeing you in August.  Here is the web site link

We just sent an email newsletter out - reminder to pre-register.  Just in case you are not on our list here is some of the information that you will need to know.

BOSS car show display - All vehicles that get pre-registered will receive a Boss dog tag and a 9 x 12 Participation Plaque.  Cutoff date is June 20th.  Register on line at www.BossReunion.com

Sunday Auto X - we need 50 pre-registered by May 10th.  If we don't hit the 50 pre-registered we will still have the activity and Boss specific awards - but there will be other cars running in the group.  I think once registration opens to all it will fill.  So if you want to run don't wait till you arrive.
Thanks

Just want to make sure everyone knows the pre-registration cutoff date is June 20th.  Pre-registration gets you the Boss dog tags and the Boss PARTICIPANT plaque.  Cars can register after that date but the two goodies mentioned will only go to those pre-registered.  Also when on the BossReunion.com site you will see that the paid truck trailer parking is sold out.  There is however room to park truck and trailers in the General Admission area.  That area is outside the main entrance,  you will need to unload at that point and drive the Boss into the event.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks, looking forward to meeting everyone.  CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF BOSS!

After talking it over with lisa we decided to have a judged original survivor class added to the concours event since we have some room under the tent. So if u have a  unrestored boss mustang or cougar u can get a 50th reunion award. Your car dont have to be 100% original yet just a good unrestored survivor with most of its paint & some parts missing tires etc. The more original the car is the higher the award. This is how u learn from the unmolested cars to document if u are doing a concours restoration so bring your cameras & bring those great 50 year old cars out for this historic once in a lifetime reunion. This is a long holiday weekend so an extra day to travel.

Just looked at Dave W. 70 boss 302 cougar at 50th 1969 cougar meet in auburn in. last weekend and its all original with all paperwork from OO and Fred K. boss 351 that was at carlisle along with the OO that fred just bought it from all original with paperwork & both cars will be at 50th boss meet so bring your cameras great cars to document an concours restoration from. Joey F will be bringing his low mile 69 boss 429 KK1259 the ford shop tips car that had changes done by ford to perform better but still a unrestored car. Would like to get more unrestored bosses for this group so anybody know somebody where any other unrestored bosses are?

HISTORICAL Race Car Coming to Boss Reunion:  Excited to announce this historical Bud Moore build, 1969 Mustang Race  car will be on display at the Boss Reunion.  Originally ordered, sold to, and driven by Moises Solana. Also driven by  Freddy Van Beuren.  This car has been stored away for over 40 years.  Hear the story from new owner Tim Olive (history will be given at the banquet on Friday evening).  Car with documentation will be displayed at the show on Saturday and Sunday.
Please note that Tim just recently purchased this car July 12th, and is trying very hard to get it representable for the show.

Cannot post photos of the Bud Moore car.  So if you want to see it you will just have to come to the show.  Reminder on line registration closes July 31st.  Of course you may purchase entry at the gate on Saturday and/or Sunday.  Please be sure you specify BOSS Reunion if you are driving an non-preregistered Boss.  We have 130 cars pre-registered.  approx. show area breakdown: 1969 302 = 22  / 1970 =38 / 1971 =7 / 2012 =19 / 2013 = 18 / 429 =7 / Cougar 4.   This does not include special display vehicles and judged vehicles.  Thanks looking forward to the seeing all at the BOSS Reunion celebration of 50years BOSS.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your email in response to my query re the banquet. Turns out flights from my area (Vancouver B.C. ) to the event are just too long so I’m going to pass.
Good luck with the show!
Mike.

Welcome! Sorry it is not going to work out for you to attend.  So there is a photographer attending the event and he will be shooting photos.  Take a look at his site - you can view the event photos and if you see something you like it is very easy to order photos  https://hammspics.smugmug.com/

I head out early AM - so I will not be responding to any messages posted here for the next couple of days.

Boss Reunion 2019 is now in our rearview mirror.  Thanks to all for attending.  Special thanks to Ed Meyer and his judging team.  Thank you Doug E. for helping arrange the truck and trailers.  Thanks to Dan Medice and his team for helping out when needed.  Big thanks to the event sponsors and Supporters: Adams Polisehs, CJ Pony Parts, Hagerty Insurance, Mecum Auctions, Boss Nationals 2018, NPD, Peorgie, ECS Automotive Concepts and MediceMfg.com.  There of course were a number of other helpers that assisted when asked and that help was much appreciated.

So if you attended or if you were unable to attend - the event days of Satruday and Sunday were captured by Tom Hamm, visit the web site listed below to view photos of the event.  You can order actual prints if you like.

Thank you for being part of this historical gathering.  Lisa Leathery
