Title: Lowering standards?
Post by: bosstwins on December 27, 2017, 07:42:17 am
I am surprised at some of the cars that BJ has consigned for Scottsdale 2018. I am not talking about the early auction day cars, I mean Friday and Saturday "Salon" cars that have a bunch of parts wrong/missing.  I know cars that were restored back in the 80's and 90's are coming out in droves, but they are substandard by today's standards, right?  At a minimum they need freshening up, and at worst they need a total go-thru.

I am not trying to disrespect anyone's car, but I am concerned about the quality of cars there and what it could do to valuation.  Quality should prevail, right?  I know the risks at auction and I am not talking about those.

The cream will rise to the top. I think the only thing that Craig cares about is $$$. Good luck with your auction as you have more guts than I have to enter into a no reserve auction at this price level. You never know what is going to happen on the block.

I agree with Orangegrower, I've had my Boss for 30+ years and it would be categorized as substandard.  I wouldn't consider selling it at auction because of cars like yours are the cream of the crop and as Mike says "the cream will rise to the top".  Quality will prevail and I'm sure you will get top dollar - best of luck!

BTW, Mike - are you in Arizona full time now?

Yes Marc we are. It has been a good move. Come out sometime for auction week.

Why should we be concerned about what BJ is doing? It’s what they always do.
And why should one always worry about valuation?
Just enjoy ur car or cars.

Well, I am concerned because the time has come to sell KK 1774 and my 1968 GT500KR.

Barrett hasn’t had quality cars going through for years.  Don’t get me wrong, there are always a handful of very nice cars but overall I’ve never been impressed when I’ve gone.  I feel the Mecum auctions have better quality, not saying everything there is top notch but I feel they have more quality cars.

I agree with Jeremy that Mecum has overall better quality cars. In my opinion the reason why they have better quality cars is you can put a reserve on them..With a high dollar car you could have $100,000 disappointment in a no reserve auction. I want to spend my nights sleeping and not tossing and turning.

You have had your cars for sale for some time.
And reality is that auction houses sell cars of varying quality and valuations.
Reality is reality

Thanks Captain Obvious!

I was merely concerned that the exact car (S motor, mine is T) is going thru the same auction 19 cars apart and appears to have a lot of expensive parts missing. Pretty basic concern, I thought it would be simple to understand and discuss.

Not really, it just seems that anytime someone mentions value, you preach about not worrying about it and just enjoying your car(s), even when the post is clear that the person is selling a car or it raises a legitimate concern (my post does both).

BTW - If you care so little about value, I will give you what you have in your cars, which is apparently a great deal for both of us.

Oh, and "Reality is reality"??  Come on, that's something only Captain Obvious would say, so you deserved that.

I think we all want the good B9's  to sell for the highest dollar amount possible ...
Each car  and each and every venue /timing/buyers will change the selling price ...
Best of luck to you on the sale
Regards Tom

Good luck with the sale, I hope you do very well.
Just wondering however why you sent it to a no reserve auction and gave up control over the selling price. Is Russo that big a step down if you want to sell to the big Arizona crowds?

I have sold at Russo, BJ, and Mecum and I believe the BJ no reserve format is the best.  They attract the affluent buyers and promote the cars better than the rest.  Mecum is just pushing too many cars with too many auctions, and the quality is suffering because of the frequency.  Don't like the Mecum selection this month?  No problem, there's another one in 30 days!  And another and another and another!  It makes our cars seem abundantly available.

I alos find the practice of the reserve auction houses bidding the cars up to be tacky, condescending to buyers, and artificial.  Anyone that has seen them fumble around trying to figure out if they have a real bid on a car or not knows exactly what I mean.  None are perfect, and anything can happen, but at least BJ seems transparent in the bidding process.

I do prefer Mecum's payout on auction day to BJ's three week hold!!

Thanks to all for the best wishes.  Stop by Lot 1338 1968 GT500KR or 1410 B9 to say hello if you are at BJ.

Had my car for sale on this site and BJ called and wanted it for their auction , reality is that I can't afford to gamble $300 k . The auction game has its clientele and I'm not Reggie

Sorry I'm late to this post and if it has been discussed I apologize, was your Boss #1318 part of the Telstar Collection?  Thanks, Scott

Scott, to answer you inquiry, I believe KK 1318 was once owned by Jerry Regynski, Telstar Motors, Mitchell, SD.

No, the Shelby was lot #1338

1338

nebraskaboss302 was inquiring about KK 1318, Lot # 1429 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2018.

Kind of a neat Lot # to have for a BOSS 429 Mustang going across the block.
