Title: 50th anniversary West Coast and PNW Medford BOSS 302 Gathering Aug. 2,3 & 4 2019
Post by: JohnSlack on December 17, 2018, 05:23:25 pm
I'm moving this here as I have received some PMs that indicated there was sufficient interest in a meet up of West coast BOSS 302, BOSS 429, and BOSS 351 owners that don't so much need a racetrack but would like to have a meeting up that is central to the West Coast guys that doesn't necessarily have the date of the East Coast reunion so people can go to both events.

So post your interest in that here.

50th anniversary West Coast and Pacific Northwest Medford Oregon BOSS 302 Reunion - Aug. 2, 3 & 4 2019

Thank you,

John, I like this idea. I might even bring my car again. I did have it down to Knotts in 2009. Edmonton, Alberta Canada is a very long way, but I would think my car should get back down to the warm again. I was seriously thinking the main one in Detroit, but without my car, so this might be more do-able and fun for me and the family. I'll be watching this for updates. Thanks for the efforts.

That would be great, I remember meeting you and your family at Knott's. We are designing this event to be very family welcoming as well.

I would attend in person. Was still thinking on the East Coast , but West Coast has some pretty nice iron too. I'll stay tuned for more info , we could talk about my engine possibility too.
Thanks, Randy

Being located in the middle of the country (Dallas), i am able and interested in attending both east and west coast events, if the dates work.  Hope you pick a date that doesnt conflict with other events (mca, saac, mid america, carlisle, etc).  Looking forward to hearing what ya’ll set up.

just got this from Fab Ford organizers

Hello!

We are actually planning to celebrate the Boss and Mach1 vehicles at our show this year.  We'll have a special display of these cars at the show!  There won't be a huge display, but we encourage everyone who owns such a car to enter!  We do have a class specifically for the Boss!

One of the organizers of the Boss Nationals is on my staff helping with the parking layout and is responsible for the Boss display!  =)

Not to hash on the Fabulous Ford's event, as Gary has pointed out that event has it's own thread, and that event may or may not work for everyone West Coast and Pacific Northwest. This thread however is dedicated to the event we have already started trying to organize in Medford Oregon. Please don't dilute the thread with other events. Dates and location coming very soon.

Agreed! And I hope a bunch of us from the south can make it to both!
BTW, I am on the "Milestone" Committee for the FFF show, and we'll be looking for probably 3 BOSS cars to be in the featured display. Let me know if you are interested so you can submit pix and a description.

Man, you need to talk Mark into bringing his Calypso Coral 1969 with the white interior. Jim Boyd did the restoration, Mark has tuned up the fine points on the restoration and it is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!

We have our Target dates for this event and are currently working with local hotels on special rates. But I wanted to get the dates out to everyone ASAP so plans can be made if West Coast BOSS owners want to attend. Of course anyone from around the country is welcome to attend this gathering. Focusing on BOSS 302 Mustangs and Cougars, BOSS 429 Mustangs, and BOSS 351 Mustangs. More details to follow.

Hello all;

I have been absent from the site for quite some time, and I just ran across this post.  I live in Central Point (suburb of Medford), and would be willing to help with logistics.  I can put whomever is in charge with a friend of mine who runs the Hilton properties here in Medford.  She can make the hotel thing easier (and maybe cheaper!).

Where would the show/display be held?

Okay  folks…………….here’s what we have

We’ve had a lot of people asking about this event but we need to be clear…….It’s not an event…..it’s a “Gathering”.   The differences being there will not be a race track, there will not be a structured car show, so there will be no judging or trophies.

The main concept of this “Gathering” is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the “Vintage” BOSS 302, BOSS 429 and BOSS 351 Mustangs and Cougars!  The “Gathering” is meant to be more like the old days when we all used to get together, enjoy the cars and talk about them.

We’ve negotiated with the hotels and   they have told us we are restricted to 30 parking spaces.  This means we are forced to limit the “Gathering” to 30 cars. In the spirit of the anniversary, we would like to limit the cars to 1969, 1970, and 1971 cars only.    However people that want to just attend without bringing a vintage car are more than welcome.  Please use the hotel hyperlinks for reservations – the discount is small but it keeps us all together.
Here is a quick summary of our  “2019 50th Anniversary Gathering  of Vintage  BOSS Cars” :

Click the link above,  Select your dates,  Click “CHECK AVAILABILITY”, The Two Queen Beds Nonsmoking prompt will come up.  Click “SELECT ROOM”, The “2019 Mustang Anniversary” Prompt will come up, click the “SELECT RATE” prompt. Your reservation page final page will come up and you can fill in your information.

(The negotiated rates require a check in of Friday August 2nd and allows for a checkout on either Sunday August 4th or Monday August 5th.   The Gathering officially ends on Sunday 4th).)

(…sorry about the” 2019 Mustang Anniversary” wording.  The hotels took this title and applied it to all of their  titles)

The hotels  all use the same parking lot so this makes the designated spaces very convenient.  The additional plan is that car owners will pool funds to provide security for these collector cars. (We will discuss this amount as we get further into it, however there will be no profit margin – just the billed amount divided by the number of cars.)
o   Around 6:00 - Dinner at a local winery (still working on these details).

Saturday, August 3, 2019
o   Individuals have breakfast  at  their respective hotels
o   We will have a host  at each hotel  to facilitate conversation and answer questions about the agenda (John Slack, Craig Johnson and Mark Hovander).
o   Around 10:00  - gather in the parking lot and prepare to drive to Lake of the Woods Resort.   The drive takes about 1 hour – take I-5 south to Hwy 66 – then turn left on Dead Indian Memorial Road.  Take this all the way to Lake of the Wood Resort.  Look it up on Google Maps, its an awesome drive!
o    Lunch is on your own at Lake of the Woods Resort but they have a nice selection.
o   Around 2:00 - Leave Lake of the Woods Resort  and arrive back in Medford around  3:00
o   Around 5:30 – Gather  for dinner at The Pointe Pub and Grill at 1345 Center Drive in Medford.   They are within walking distance for those who don’t want to drive and they have let us book all their reservations from 5:30 – 8:00 as long as we all plan to eat and drink with them!  (Well…..yeah!)
o
Sunday,  August  4, 2019
o   Individuals have breakfast  at  their respective hotel
o   Gather in the parking lot for concluding statements
o   Gathering concludes in the morning.

Hotels reservations should be booked directly with each hotel.   Again, please use the booking link since it will help the hotel keep track of who is in our group.
With regards to car participation,  please respond on this thread so we can keep track of the cars (and people)  that are joining us.   Remember, we only have 30 parking spaces - so in order to maintain transparency,  the first 30 vintage cars (1969, 1970 & 1971) that respond to this thread will be accepted  in the order they appear on the thread.   The only exception being that we will hold the first 19 spaces for people who have indicated their participation prior to this formal announcement.  These people have already received PM’s.   We will only hold these 19 spaces until March 17, 2019.

We’re looking forward to this small “Gathering”  being a lot of fun!

OK , I am booked at the Holiday Inn Express , thanks Melody, it was so easy, even I could do it !   I am bringing my old high school girl friend (1970 BOSS 302) . I should make it unless Craig takes parts off my car so his will make it down there. Look forward to meeting everyone, so any chance we can talk out in the parking lot after the sun goes down, like we used to?  Well wishful thinking, inside next to the watering hole ( get it ? Mustang talk) will work out fine too. Medford or Bust. Thanks again John and Melody for putting this all together, look forward to seeing Mariah. Rock on Mariah.   Mark Hovander

John, will my 69 be the only 4 eyed freak at the show?
On another note, will there be parking for my trailer as I want to stay at the hotel with the room for my trailer. I most likely will be putting my car in the trailer at night. If the weather is good I may consider leaving it outside under a car cover as long as there is security, but most likely wouldn't.

Thanks for you and the team for organising this gathering. How many cars do you think will register and how many cars will just show up? Is this strictly for us BOSS guys or do you suspect other FORDS and Mustangs will show up?

Oh, on a third note: I really want some Argent wheels and the PolyGlas tires for this show, but I cannot find date code correct Argents, so does anyone know if Specialty Wheel still making them?

Philip, Specialty Wheels that created my custom Argent Magnums are no longer in business, I think they have been defunct for five plus years now...

Dana, I just bought 4 PolyGlas no size tires so that is step one. Although my car did come with the chrome Magnum 500's I still am looking for a set of 4 Argent Magnum 500's. Them with the PolyGlas on an Acapulco Blue 69 look spectacular.

I also have a complete Scott Fuller exhaust system coming so I will have that ready for this gathering. I had a backfire and imploded my muffler, and I also had some scrapes on the H-Pipe so I thought I would go all in so it all looks the same condition.

I will rebuild the carb in the next few weeks, then its off to my detailer for a detail of the paint, although it still looks good.

I am also thinking of selling my 24' enclosed (as I sold the 63 Galaxie) and getting a 22' enclosed and in Aluminum.

Lastly, booked the hotel so I'm good to go.

Expensive, but fun hobby (passion).

Philip

Right now we have 10-1970 BOSS 302 Mustangs  and  1-1969 BOSS 302 Mustang (Thanks Philip!)  This is a start!

We have heard from several  people that they’re interested in going but we’ve not seen them commit.  Well,  its time to stop hemming and hawing………Let’s make this happen!!!

Still looking for Cougars, BOSS 351's and BOSS 429’s.

Typically, the people we have talked to that have put together events say that they last 30 days are when everybody decides to commit to going.   However, based on the hotel contract, and keeping our block of room reservations,  people need to book by June 28th.    After this date, we are releasing any  unreserved rooms in our block.

P.M. me  if you have any questions.     Get on Board and make your reservations!

The link below will take you to webpage with all the reservation links;

That's all we have is 11 Boss cars coming. You guys that miss this will kick yourself later. I did an event like this in 07 and we all wondered if it would be any good. Everyone that came said it was so much fun just being with others. Some of us still talk about it. The best time they ever had. Most everyone goes to these car shows and the competition and trophies. An event like this is relaxing and just time to hang out. Any weekend you can just talk  about and look at Boss Mustangs is a great weekend. I know the rooms are booked but there are always ways.

Another note to others coming. Over the years Boss 302 stuff is in all kinds of things. There is die cast, pictures,Posters, cups, glasses, calendars and all kinds of things. I collect all kinds of things with Boss 302 on it. If you have anything else you collect bring it along. The cars are really cool but kind of fun to see what kinds of things the Boss 302 name has generated. Kinda like show and tell. No not "you show me yours and I'll show you mine". I plan on bringing a few things and also my R/C cars. anyone want to race?

Yes we will and I have been to car shows, and anniversaries and such before. A gathering gives you time to hang out and talk to others so that is why I said to others, you will miss a good time. Oh yes Bob and I are coming together. Anyone from California want to travel together?

John,  I wish I could make it, but you already know who's not a happy camper next week,  Only 11 cars huh, well I've been to shows with 300+, 2000+ and you know what?? I usually end out hanging out with 10 of my best friends who share the same interests as me.  Sometimes there are big turnouts and you say "man I wish I saw that one car", this time you'll see, touch and smell each car in attendance.  This will be a great gathering, a fantastic time will be had by all and a lifetime of memories!  Have fun, I'll be there in spirit!

Pizza is a great idea. Leave it to Melody. It will be like the parking lots we hung out in back in the day.

Well my 69 Acapulco Blue is looking better that it will be there. The engine is back in! Yahoo!
Flange up the tranny, on with the driveshaft and then put on the new exhaust system and then sort out the car.
Its looking better every day.

I’ll be there hanging out with all my friends and hopefully allot of new ones. Unfortunately, I will not be able to have my car there but very much looking forward to seeing everyone’s cars that are there.

Good morning John -

It looks like Paul (prjohnson3) and I are caravanning from the Central CA together (trailering....but that's another story), and will be arriving in Medford Early afternoon Friday.   Can you provide any guidance in terms of where you want us to park the B302's, after we download the cars?

Any other direction is appreciated - see you on Friday!   BTW, my son is coming down from Seattle to be with us - it will be great for you to meet him.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, Paul (and anyone else?)

We'll be heading out from Sacramento Friday morning (original point of origin is LA). What part of Central Ca are you from?
Want to meet up?

Hi Gary -

Our plan is to leave Paso Robles (Paul), and Monterey (me), at some reasonable time  on Thursday morning - and drive up to Redding and spend the night.    We're planning on leaving Redding on Friday morning (timing TBD) and get up to Medford early-mid afternoon.  When are you leaving Sac on Friday morning?

We could meet up in Redding and the three of us take the balance of the trip.  This is awesome....

Bob

Will be on the look out for individuals and small groups as we make our way north. Will be driving a rental :(  but will be there anyway.  If a car drops in behind you and sticks there - might just be us

At a reasonable time. ;)

It's about a 2-1/2 hr drive from Sacto to Redding. Maybe our "reasonables" can align.

I think John sent you my phone number. Why don't we all PM w phone numbers and see what we can put together.

Looking forward to meeting all you guys! I'm not looking forward to the heat. I'm a Canadian that will be seeking the shade all weekend. A pleasant 75 deg. F would've been fine for me.

Please stop me if i complain though as it will most likely be snowing by October up here so remind me of that.

Thank you

Philip

We may live down here but I for one will still complain about the heat. I would love 75. We'll all find any shade we can. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

We will be leaving the East bay area Friday morning around 8:00-9:00 and driving straight up to Medford. Couldn't get the Boss finished in time so we'll be in our 2007 GT500.  I'm not sure if that fits with anyone else but we're open to catching up with anyone that will be around.

Tom,
We are very much looking forward to meeting you face to face, I understand as well not being able to finish a car for Medford, but the group of people attending will be a great sounding board/resource for you and others doing a restoration.

Tom,
Sorry to hear the Boss won't be done. Bob and I are leaving Thursday and staying in Redding Ca. Meeting Gary Friday morning late and heading to Medford on 5. I would guess we would leave Redding around 10 or 11. If you want to meet us, you are welcome.
