Title: 1969 under hood paint details
Post by: JohnKammer on September 21, 2019, 12:06:46 pm
Need some advice on some under hood items and what sheen they should be, ie, gloss, semi-gloss, flat, satin , etc.

- finger guard

- oil cooler brackets

- oil cooler

- export brace

- lower tubular brace

- top oil cooler line at cooler

- shock caps

Build date 3-26-69   KK 1638

Any help will be appreciated.

John remember these parts were made by different vendors different places and some painted by the vendor not all at ford so the shades of semi-gloss black may vary depending on the paint they used at that time.

John - all of the original paint oil coolers I have seen were almost flat black.  I believe the ones on restored cars that are gloss or SG are incorrect.

Correct jim and the oil coolers were dipped and have lots of noticable paint drips on the 1 outer edge.

Would the paint they use at the Radiator shops be close for the oil cooler ?

There is a stamp that states 2 coats epoxy - Is that the same paint ?

Thanks,
John

John

I have a photo of a very nice original that shows the paint and the drips Ed is referring to pretty well.  Send me an email and I will reply with the photo.  Apparently can't post it here.
