I will probably see it on Saturday.

Not everybody will see it the first weekend it opens. For those that do see it early, please don't spoil it by discussing tons of details of the movie before others get a chance to see it on their own.

Thanks!

I'm curious to see how much they stretched the truth (or should I say snake oil they added) to make the movie more fun for everybody. After all we all know how Hollywood works it's all about making money at the end. Lol I hope it's a great movie and does well. Lol

I am planning on seeing this movie, this weekend if possible.  It has gotten surprisingly good reviews from the liberal rags up here in the Northeast, including the NY Slimes.  It might take in big box office.

From the trailers, I think they might have taken some "poetic license" to make the story more interesting.  Some things that look like a stretch so far are:

1) I seriously doubt HFII was ever taken for a ride in the GT40, let alone crying in fear after the ride was over.  The Deuce was a tough character who commanded respect.  I have read that HFII's son, who was at the 1966 Lemans race with his father as a teenager, may not even see the movie as a result.

2) Everything I have read about Miles indicates that he was a sarcastic egocentric, but no one has reported him being physically violent, unlike our good friend A.J. Foyt. The fistfight with Shelby is most probably a total fabrication for the sake of drama. If anyone has more insight into Miles and his temperament, I would like to hear it.

3) In showcasing Miles as the force behind the development of the cars, one guy who is reported to get short shrift is Phil Remington, the genius brought the fixes to the original GT 40 design to reality.

These may be nitpicks.  The movie looks like a good time anyway.  Can't wait to see it.

I have a tough time with Ken and Carol getting into a fist fight. But who knows maybe it really happened. Let's face it cubic money won LeMans for Ford. When you have a map of LeMans and knowing where to upshift and downshift and it's tied into the dyno with your 427 engine and transaxle and you up shift and downshift and test the engine for 48 hours continuously or more to see what breaks and what doesn't of course that help to win Le Mans. And all the smart Engineers they have working at Ford.

Boys,
Remember this IS a Hollywood movie (and from one who works in the 'biz'), don't take it to seriously. This is not a documentary, so the 'facts' are definitely stretched and or not accurate. Take it for what it is, pure entertainment for the masses.

I saw it today...and enjoyed it very much.

If I did nit-pick anything it would be the HFII in the car ride scene, as well as some of the other in-fighting they showed going on at FoMoCo.  But common sense lets me know things like that happen, even in a small company, much more so in one as big as Ford.  Just bothers me because I've bled Ford blue for so long I just hate for that to be in there.  I know, that's dumb. ::)

But having said that, I still enjoyed the heck out of it.  Go, you'll love it!

Here's a great read on the Ford GT program, and after reading this I appreciate the movie even more.  I'd love for it to make a lot of money and producers start to make more car movies, westerns, suspense or courtroom situations, etc and get away from all these super-hero comic book type films!

Yeah seen it. Loved it. As Scott said, didnt accept everything as fact..
I would see it again. Although I’m by far from a movie critic, apart from sci-fi... never seen Star Wars, not interested.
My wife however has seen more movies than all of us put together!! So half way through I asked if the car racing was boring her. (Spoiler : it is about a famous car race. Hope that doesn’t ruin it for you!!) Anyway she said she was loving it
See it on the big screen experience... don’t wait for VHS

George Stauffer who owned the winning GT40 until 2010, started a Cars Curing Kids  group as a fundraiser for the UW Children's Hospital. Friday night they rented one of the local theaters and invited 600 car people to view the movie for free. There were several cars at the theater, including one of the 33 250 GTO's there. It was a 1962 and had won 1st in class and 2nd overall at LeMans in 1962. Yes, in WI during the winter. It was brought there by the owner from MP Products in the Appleton area. There were GT40's Ford GT's, Cobras, and a few Mustang race cars along with a Porsche 906. It was a fabulous event with a good movie. Sitting next to us was Al Toon the former Jets wide receiver and WI Badgers standout receiver. It was a great fundraiser for the hospital and everyone had a great time. I won't tell you about the movie, just go see it!

Wow, That's impressive!

Our local Bluegrass Mustang Club got to do a private showing at Movie Tavern in Lexington.  We had A Ford GT, Ferrari, Porsche and even a Model T join all the Mustangs and parked around the sidewalk surrounding the theater.  Pretty cool event too...just on a smaller scale. ::)

Just saw it this afternoon with my son (10). He enjoyed the race scenes, especially Daytona but he didn’t get all the Ford management politics.

For me, best film in a long time. Maybe they did stretch the truth, Matt Damon as Shelby seemed a strange choice but it all worked really well.. I will go back to see it again with the wife.

I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it.  Beebe made a great bad guy since from what I have read he was the reason for the outcome.  Really refreshing movie !! I guess alot of those cars were factory Five .

NO! All the cars in the racing scenes, all the Ford GTs, even the Ferrari's, and even the Porsches were all built by RCR cars in Michigan. I beleive the only non-RCR Ford GT in the movie was the one scene when they showed a non-moving Ford GT with the rear hatch open when they said to get rid of the Webers and put a Holley on it.

RCR was given a very short time to supply the cars for this movie by the company that made the movie. Initially RCR wanted to use Ford engines in all the Ford GTs, but in discussions with Ford Performance RCR could not get the required Ford engines in either the short time frame nor in the quantity needed. Also a lot of work (and time) would have been required in mating a proper and reliable engine management system for the Ford engines. RCR's first choice was to use Ford engines, but when RCR couldn't make that happen they had to use small block Chevys in all the cars, Ford, Ferrari, and Porsche. All the Chevy engines came directly from Chevrolet Performance and they were supplied with a plug and play engine management system simplifying the build process. The movie company didn't care. They just needed reliable vehicles that could be raced against one another in order to make this movie a reality. Supplying all the movie cars with the same drive train keeps the maintenance simple and also makes it easier to keep all the cars running if any issues were to come up during filming. The simplest way to tell if a Ford GT is a RCR replica Ford GT is the little hinged vent window in the side glass. RCR makes all their hardware in-house for these vent windows. RCR went to great lengths to copy the original Ford GT vent window. Original Ford GTs don't have any rubber gaskets around this little vent window. RCR side vent windows don't have a black gasket around the vent window. Other companies that make Ford GT replicars use a black rubber gasket around this vent window. If you see the black rubber gasket around the vent window its not a RCR built Ford GT.

There are and have been a lot of companies that built 1960s Ford GT replicas. If you are interested the 1960s Ford GT and are thinking of getting one (new or used) check out the Ford GT website at gt40s.com

No surprise that there are some "stretches" in the film. CS himself subscribed to that when he was alive.

If all of the cars in the movie that were built by RCR had Chevy engines, what is the story about this car having a 427 Roush engine.

If all of the cars in the movie that were built by RCR had Chevy engines, what is the story about this car having a 427 Roush engine.

All the running, moving, and actual racing Ford GTs in the movie were vehicles manufactured by RCR. In the auction under Highlights the line that says; "Driven at times by Christian Bale during filming" is really meaningless. It implies that the car was used in the film and made it in the movie. However this could also just mean that during the time the movie was being made is was driven off-set by Bale. Look at the auction pictures, specifically the side view. See the rubber gasket around the little side vent window? This is a clear tell-tale that this is not a RCR Ford GT Replica. Yes, the movie company had in their possession a "very few" other non-RCR Ford GT replica-cars during the making of this movie, but none of these "in their possession" vehicles were raced/driven "in" the film.

Likewise the Highlight line that says: "One of two finished in this livery for use in the James Mangold film" implies it was used in the film. But if it was actually used the film this line should have read "and used in" instead of "for use in".

As to the claim of of this car being used for "Featured at all of the Red Carpet events as well as on ESPN and CBS Sunday Morning" is probably true, but I can't speak to that. But the line in the description that says: "Superformance representative Rich MacDonald reached out to representatives at FOX Studios about the possibility of featuring the cars in the new film, noting their high-quality and accurate builds; one was a representative of Bruce McLaren’s black GT40 that placed first at Le Mans in 1966, and the other was this car. FOX clearly agreed with MacDonald’s assessments of Superformances' craftsmanship, as both cars were taken into the care of FOX during the filming of the movie." Yes, while this movie was being filmed these two Superformance Ford GT repli-cars were sitting off in a warehouse somewhere.

Superformance would have loved to have supplied 'all" the Ford GTs in the movie but they could not supply the necessary cars required in the time frame required. Superformance is more than happy to take credit for all the Ford GTs used in the making and on screen of this movie. But that's not what really happened. RCR is aware of this Mecum auction car and some of the inaccuracies listed in the details of this auction. RCR has a call into Mecum to help clarify some of the liberties claimed on this vehicle.

We all know that all claims of all cars that are listed-up in major auctions are 100% accurate, right? I'm sure this auction is just another one of those.

I'm not trying to say anything negative about Superformance nor their vehicles. I think they make great products. But the action cars in this action movie were made in Michigan by RCR.

How come it’s right hand drive?

The original Ford GT was based off Eric Broadley's Lola Mk6 GT Prototype which debuted and raced in 1963. Ford liked what they saw in this little Lola and Ford hired Broadley in 1963 to start and develop the new Ford GT race car and it was all based off of the Lola Mk6 GT. With Lola and Broadley being based in England their cars were RH drive and therefore the Ford GT was also RH drive.

The original Ford GTs were RH drive. The pits at Le Mans have the RH side of the car to the pit wall. Its quicker to change drivers if the drivers side is to the pit side wall. The object of the Ford GT was to beat Ferrari at Le Mans.

As a side note in 1964 Broadley and Ford split ways and Lola went on and came out with their Lola T70 race car.

You are not the only one Scott.  10 minutes of feet on pedals footage, swerving through traffic like some nut in rush hour traffic, 30 second snarling  stare downs from Bandini running 200mph...  etc, etc.  Just seemed kind of hokey to me but the cars were cool.  Looks like they didn't even hire a technical consultant. I don't regret going but glad I went to the $4 ticket matinee and ate first thereby saving $20 buying a popcorn and coke.

Darrell,
Not surprising it was released by 20th Century Fox. When I was hired to film the racing footage back in the early 1990s, the production company was Warner Bros. Since Warner Bros. 'dumped' this project back in the late 1990s for lack of funding, I can see why. Darrell, I believe you are correct, no technical consultant, and a 'rush' to build the replica cars for filming says a lot about the lack of production quality.

I went and saw Steve McQueen's Le Mans when it first came out and although I liked the movie, it did not do well at the box office.  Lola T70s were used for the crash scenes as they didn't want to destroy Porsche 917s and Ferrari 512s.  When Enzo Ferrari found out that Porsche was going to win Le Mans in the movie, he withdrew factory support.
