I thought I would ask your input. What were the production figures for  69 and 70 CJ cougars. Would you rather have a Cj or Boss cougar and why? Olaf

Since the the 1969 and 1970 Eliminators shared the same body code as a regular Cougar hardtop, there is no concrete information as to how many of each was produced. The Boss 302 was only available in the Eliminator so we have that info. 169 Boss 302 Eliminators 1969 and 469 in 1970. I do have some incomplete information  on the Cobra Jet Eliminators at the office. If somebody gets a Marti report and asks a specific question, they will get an answer. I believe there were 132 1970 Eliminators produced with the 428 Engine, four speed and ram-air. I don't know how many of them were super Cobra Jets.

Here's some information from the www.mercurycougar.net website.

and

http://www.mercurycougar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14227&highlight=428+production

Hope this helps.

As for whether I'd prefer a CJ versus a Boss, I just don't know.  My Boss Eliminator (the one that is restored and driveable) is scheduled to arrive Monday morning.  So, I haven't driven a Boss one yet.  But, I absolutely love driving my SCJ Eliminator.  It's got tons of power and has excellent driving manners.  There's nothing like a big block!

sounds like a bowtie forum. lol  just kidding, but the chevy guys make more z28s than were ever built, you know that.  how does a buyer know a genuine eliminator?  i believe it true that you are the eliminators expert here, so if you can't tell, is there anyone who can?

Yes, there are many clones out there.  Other than the Boss ECats the only surefire way is a Marti report or Eminiger invoice.  For more specifics check this link.

LOL.. we have a saying over on the Corvette sites.. "Of the orginal 15 L-88 67 coupes, only 1500 are known now to exist"

Here's one for you though.... I have a customer's 70 Boss Eliminator in my shop being wrapped up and I found it had CJ shock tower bracing.. what is this?

Hey Bob, mine has the same shock tower wraps, I have a Cj and 3 Boss's and they all have the same wraps. I believe all Boss 302, Cj and big block cars had them. Olaf

all Eliminators
« Reply #8 on: November 03, 2005, 06:09:44 pm »
According to the 1970 Cougar sales brochure, the Competition Handling Pkg. was Std. (standard) on all Eliminators.

"Optional with 351 CID engine; std with all others. Includes higher rate front and rear springs, heavy-duty shocks, larger diameter rear stabilizer bar."

So all Eliminators got it. Any 428 Cougar got it and it could have been ordered for any 351 Cougar.

What it doesn't say but one might assume I believe is it also includes the front reinforced shock towers?

Are you guys talking about the 1/4" flat stock bracing that wraps around the inner shock tower about 1/2 way down? I've never seen a '69-'70 Cougar without 'em. Even a lowly 351W 2v.

You are absolutely right,ALL 1969 and 1970 Cougars received the reinforced[wrap around] shock towers. Whereas only big block and Boss 302 Mustangs received them.

Is this 428CJ Mustangs, or Cougar Eliminators?

Super Cobra Jet was an option on Eliminators???

1, sold.                     2, sold.                    3, totalled 10/17/08.   4, owned for 1 week.  5, current & loving it!

All Super Cobra Jets were optional on a mustang or cougar or any of the Ford cars.
