Export Bosses - DSO 90
« on: November 24, 2009, 09:17:37 pm »
Who else has an 'Export' designated DSO (90-99) Boss 302?  If so, did it come originally with the Export brace?

Mine is a Dearborn built DSO 90, originally sold (April 30, 1970) to Ford Motor Company Figeso, 153 Hasley St. Newark, NJ. It was later sold, 'FIELD DIVERSION' on July 13, 1970 to Kribs Ford, St. Louis, Mo. So, mine was never exported outside of the U.S.

My early build NJ Boss has an export brace also. Also not sure if it was built that way.

The ones I have seen did have the export brace installed on them

Believe this was typical as we usually find them on all export cars (last one I saw was on a 6 cylinder 70) another would be the kilo speedometer

Often many other changes happened in the country they ended up being shipped to (often spelled out on the buck tag)

Jim, what is the DSO # on your Boss?

Jeff, is there anything unique about the cowl pinch weld where the 4 bolts normally attach the two shock tower  braces? i.e., with the normal LH & RH shock tower braces there is the reinforcement bracket to help stiffen the pinch weld - would this have also been installed with the Export brace?

Some DSOs of 90-99 were not exports at all--eg: DSO 94 (used on some Shelbys) means its an internal Ford Car (company car, "brass hat" or an XE Car), other numbers can indicate other sources.

When I bought my export brace in 1970 from my friendly Ford dealer,  it was a direct bolt in to my 69 BOSS302. Did not seem to be any pinch weld issues.  At that time there was no reinforcement plate with the brace either,  which really makes me wonder of its origin.  That may have been Shelby works specific?

Will have to check my pictures since I don't recall for sure. Can't see why they would not use it since it serves a purpose.

Not designed to address any "issues"  (they welded in supports in 65-66 and it was dropped in 67 on both Shelbys and export Mustangs as a cost savings issue)

Since the Boss designers apparently it served some purpose (no reason to spend the money if they didn't ;) I would guess that it was retained for those cars.   Wasn't a Shelby thing by then  as domestic  Shelbys stopped getting them after 68

Then the reinforcement plate was strictly a after market notion that someone decided we needed to be correct?

Its not even a mention in the BOSS Chassis book.

Mine has the 'L' shaped reinforcement brace (about 10" long)  - I think its part of all Boss and big block packages. Not sure about 69 though.

This would be Ford of Canada Central Ford Region - interesting.

Any other interesting DSO # s ?  where the 69/70 Mustang was intended for export?

Rick - sounds like his export brace was added. A fairly common modification on Boss's IMHO

I don't believe any B2's destine for Canada received export brackets.  At least mine didn't.

Over here in Europe I know of several 69 and 70 Models (all export DSO´s but no BOSS, mostly CJ cars and a 351 T-5 Mach1 whith Special Handling Package) that they did NOT came with an Export Brace. In my understanding it was a Shelby and over-the-counter thing only  ???
But they didn´t come automatically on export cars.
