New Boss in the garage
« on: March 29, 2010, 08:41:16 pm »
Hi,
I am new to the posts here, I just bought my first Boss 302.  It is a 1970 Boss 302 Cougar Eliminator.  I'll have some pics on Wednesday.  The car has 19,000 original miles, original paint, tires, spark plugs even the original tape holding the rev limiter wires.  No rust and the rubber is great all around.  I am pretty excited, it is pretty well a time capsule.  I'll take a great amount of pics to share with the forum.  I am going to thank everyone in advance for helping me with the questions I am sure to ask.  I will register the car as soon as I get some more information.  I know the car was a special order and has the drag pak option 4:30 gears, external oil cooler.

Anyway, happy to be a new member.

Well got to spend some time with the Cat today.  I can't upload the pics from home so I'll do it tomorrow.  Just the way things go, the great tow truck operator that brought my car over split the front "perfect condition" original spoiler.  Said to send him a bill for the replacement.  We got those laying around this forum?

Valance is good, just popped the spoiler in the middle.  If anyone has a line on an original spoiler, let me know.
I took some pics today for Jeff and sent him an email.  I am just kind of lost at home...... my work computer knows username and password for my photobucket account.  I'll post the link tomorrow.

Take care,
Kurt

Here is a link to more pics.
http://s307.photobucket.com/albums/nn288/ckarti/Cougar%20022570%20dearborn/

The car was owned by two brothers it's entire life.  I bought it through an estate.  19,900 original miles.  The last time the car was licensed for the road was in 1999, and I am not sure how long it was not driven before then. It looks like in 1995 some purchases were made with the intent of a tune up, I new plug wires and carb rebuild kits from 95'. The paint is original and there is 0 rust anywhere other than a few bolts.  The original tires look like new and have no dryrot.  Interiror looks brand new.  When I picked the car up I got a nos replacement carb still in the box and never used still with instructions and tagged, a Ford NOS gas tank with the numbers stenciled in.  It is amazing how even the original tape used to hold the rev limiter wires is still there and looks great.  Original drive train.
The things that I know are not right:
Cut a hole in the hood for active ram air.
     Speakers in the doors
A few brackets here and there
     Replacement gas tank
Newly split original front spoiler (*#@%* tow truck operator)

I am in the process of cleaning it up.  I'll have to scope the cylinders to see if there is any rust, pull the valve covers and so on.  Not in a hurry to try and start it, I have to go through the brakes, fuel lines and so on.  Need to get some different tires to drive it on and keep the polys for show.  Most of the paint is really good, all will clean up well.  I have some areas like the tops of the front fenders that has some stains.  Any ideas what to use?  I am just cleaning the better areas with a cleaner wax and it is looking good.  The car was special order with rear spoiler delete and I am thinking with the wood grain dash, I have ordered the invoice to see if the dash was ordered that way or not.
Thanks,
Kurt

Congrats on that time capsule you have! Be careful of that hood extension, it'll get ya. I know,LOL! Nice to see a vehicle that was not messed with much. The details are there to see. I didn't see the plastic gutter near the voltage regulator and thought maybe that fender apron may have been replaced. Also the braces from the shock towers to the cowl. Are they different colors? Enjoy your treasure!

Thanks Joe, the fender numbers match so I don't think it was ever hit.  The cowl braces are the same color kind of a blue-ish charcoal......it's just the photographer.

I'll get some more pics later, have family in town for the holidays.
