Now that I'm done with the 1966 Shelby/Mustang exhaust (see link below for some progress photos on that system) I have started on the 1970 Boss 429/302 systems.http://www.scottfullerreproductions.com/2009NewsandUpdates.html
I've started making the tooling for fabricating the muffler end-caps and baffles. The drawings are finished (some shown here) and the material has arrived for making the dies. Some machining has started to produce the blanks that will eventually be formed into end-caps.
Original assembly line systems are being used to copy the bends and identify the flattened areas. Sample pipes are being worked currently.
The 1966 systems took a little longer than expected which delayed the start of the 1970 systems. But now that things are underway, hopefully they will go smoothly. The best case scenario would have the production systems ready to sell by the end of 2011.
People frequently ask what my exhaust systems sound like as compared to the originals. Here is an assessment of the 1966 Shelby exhaust based on a prototype system I installed on a 1966 Shelby a couple of weeks ago.
"All that I can say is it sounds fantastic and far better then the one that was on previously. I have a friend who is a “retired†designer for Ford and another friend who worked at Shelby (during the glory days) but who were amazed at the sound and the look of the exhaust system. The deep throaty sound is something that was missing and really makes the car feel more like a real 60’s muscle car was one of the comments."
I will continue to post updates here as progress is made.
