What shaker base?
« on: June 23, 2012, 07:11:25 am »
Hi all. I just picked up a 69 Boss with an incorrect shaker. It has a part number of 4 in a box then 70072. It is in really nice shape and I am going to sell it but want to know what exactly I am selling. It also has a factory cut out hood with factory twist hood locks. How do I tell if it is for a 69 or 70? Any ideas on a fair price I should ask? Thanks as always for your expertise, Mike G.

what ur describing with the 4 in a box & 70072 is a 70 Shaker as 69 Bosses didnt have shaker from the factory. if its in really good shape + hood & twist locks I would say upwards of (min) $2k

Hey Mike. Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the fact that 69s B2's not having shakers. I thought the numbers were different though as this definitely is not for a 70 B2. It has a bigger lip all the way around. I will take some pictures and post when I can. Mike G.

Congrats on the new Boss Mike !!!  '70 hoods have a bigger hole on the bottom of the hood (the secondary structure) where the locks come through, the '69 hoods the hole was much smaller only to accommodate hood pins on the Mach1's.  A picture of the ac base will tell us more.  -Jim

Thanks Skreamer and John. I am very excited with the new car. Being a 69 I am going to have a lot of new questions so please bear with me. First I will sell off some things such as the shaker and shaker hood and all my extra 70 parts. I already dropped the original engine off at the builder for thorough inspection and rebuild. I will post pictures and a little story Monday.
Thanks or the I.D. On the base now I know what I am selling. Mike G.

A 70072 is for a 1970 351 Cleveland and a 70079 is for a 1970 Boss 302.

http://mustangtek.com/aircleaners/351C-ShakerBase-470072.html

http://www.mustangtek.com/aircleaners/4-70079ShakerBase.html

The link here says that the 351 c base is for Mustang and Torino, or am I reading that incorrectly?

Any idea what is the number for the 351W? 390? 428? I have been searching the internet for an hour and can't find those darn #'s!

You have a 1970 Mustang 351C shaker base, number 70072. It should also have two holes on the mid plate for the front stud marked 2V and 4V.
I have the same shaker on my '70 Mach 1. It is still a valuable piece, I paid over 1,000 U.S. for my complete assembly, postage here to Aus was huge...

That Mustang tek article is wrong, the snorkel shown in the top pics is not for a Cleveland and the Torino base is a different height to the Mustang base. I believe the Torino Cleveland base is part number 70143.

These pictures show the correct snorkel for the Cleveland base, and the 2V and 4V holes on the mid plate. Which mid plate came on yours?

I did, thanks. Has some of the info but not all.

Seems (so far in looking anyway) a Windsor base does not have any stamping # which seems very odd.
