Inside Drivers door opening latch playing up, any ideas

Been bugging me for a few days, but the inside drivers lever that opens the door has started to play up. I haven't pulled the door skin off yet. I wanted to get the experts advice before I start mucking about in there.
What's the usual suspects with this. Basically I need to wind the window and open the door from the outside as the inside latch is buggered

Sounds like the rod from the door handle to the latch needs adjusting,remove the door trim then have a look as you try the handle!

Or the inside rod simply came loose/fell off. Either way you will have to remove the door panel and take a looksey....

I wouldn't worry about digging into the door.
It's all very straightforward and you always have the other door to look into to see what "right" looks like.

Could be the handle base is loose on the door panel?
