Replacement Carburator Suggestions
Kevinloe:
Hi Everyone -
I am having some Carburator trouble and want to replace the Holley 750 that is on my 1970 Boss. I do not want to spend the cash for a correct carb, I just want a good replacement that I can bolt on and drive. Any suggestions?

As with any carburetor you can't just bolt it on , you will probaly have to jet it unless you get lucky , there is a discussion about carburetors , here it is below. There are plenty more discussions , just perform a seach on this site. Double pumpers work great , might take a little more time to set up right , but a lot of people use them and if your Boss engine is stock there are discussions with ball park jet figures for most carburetors.

Noboss and I were typing at the same time, so some of this is reflected in the previous post.
Anyway, Welcome to the board! What problems are you having with the carb. If you detail the issues, some members here can walk you through a fix, if possible. Saves the money for a new pot. If you really want to change it out, some suggestions follow.
This has been a hot topic of discussion in the past, doing a search will bring up a lot of threads. You have not mentioned the state of tune of the car (stock, mildly modified, full on stroker, etc.). I am assuming a stock or just warmed over street car.
The first choice is a Holley 3310-1, manual choke. Looks like original, bolts in (except maybe the throttle cable bracket, which might hit the rear vacuum fitting) and will reproduce what you have now, sans the trouble. Out of the box, it is a 4160 style with secondary metering plate, not jets, and vacuum secondary. I have mine set up with a retrofit kit from Holley to convert it to secondary jets (4150 style) and a quick change secondary diaphram cover, so I could fine tune the secondary spring without taking the carb off each time. Not exactly original looking, but at 60 MPH no one can tell the difference.
You will undoubtably get the suggestion of a 650 double pumper Holley. Good throttle response and power. Carb is more than big enough to 6500-7000 RPM. No reports of good gas mileage though.
Anything else, Edelbrock, Summit, Demon, will look way different from stock without adding significantly to performance for a street car, IMHO.

TBI. If it isn't a show car and is a driver this is a viable alternative. Have the Edelbrock system on mine and it is really good. Great drivability, performance and adapts well to where you are at. Mileage improves as well.
RadBOSS:
New 750 dbl pumper IMO (and it never was original to this car), or have yours rebuilt by a reputable carb shop, which seem to be fewer and fewer than previously.
As suggested, report your symptoms, maybe we can help with a simple fix.
Any new carb you decide to throw on it will have to be tuned to the car (jetting, power valve at the min).
