Exhaust Manifold Finish
Aussie_Boss302:
I've really enjoyed the Hooker headers, but they hang so low I'm afraid they're going to get torn off!
Before I put the factory manifolds back on, what is the best way to finish them? Is there a ceramic coating that looks like cast iron, and has anyone used any hi temp spray on products?
Thanks,
Roy
KevinR:
Here is a thread from last year that has some excellent experiences and advice.
You might want to further review the Search Engine.
Or...you could purchase the FPA headers like I and many others did to keep the performance aspect without worrying about hitting the collector flanges.
Good luck either way you go.

BOSSNCOBRA:
I bought a pint of ceramic coating off the internet ( google it) but I don't remember the company name. It was around 40 bucks. Sprayed it on and baked it in an oven ( smelled real bad ) and it came out pretty good. It was about 3 years ago.

I like the idea of a ceramic coating, and I found a bunch online (including Eastwood). The thread above mentions dipping the "manifolds in a bucket of Evaporust", so does anyone know how dipping compare to media blasting?

I dipped my exhaust manifolds in Evaporust just as a test , they were quite rusty from sitting 30 years. The dipping worked well but I like sandblasting better . Good success with Eastwood and very happy with Bill Hirsch products .
No experience with professional ceramic coatings.
Any coating you heat up to 1300 degrees is going to be punished considering it could cycle many times a day to cherry red .
These brush on / spray on products are not the same as Jet coating or other baked on processes. From experience the above mention products have lasted a long time and still look good , my 56 Chev has Eastwoods coating for the last 10 years still looks decent .
