Car and Driver says there will be a 2015 Boss 302
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:08:25 pm »
So I was reading my Nov. 2012 Car and Driver that came in the mail today and on page 22 they are talking about the new Mustang that will be coming out in 2015.  "The 2015 GT will keep the Coyote 5.0 liter V-8, but don't expect horsepower to rise from its current 420. the delayed-intro Boss 302 will see an extra six ponies coaxed out of its engine, raising that figure to 450."

Please tell me Ford is not making another Boss 302 as I bought it because I thought it was going to be a two year run with low numbers.  ???

I have always been told and understood that it was a two year run only. Some of that info came from Ford. Nothing would surprise me though!

Yeah, saw that too.  Got me a little worried as well.  Oh, well.  If it happens, i'll just drive the car more often as the collectible status will change.  More track time for me. yeah!!!!!!!

My guess is that Ford will have all types of mustangs out for the 50th Anniversary.

Besides the unreliability of the report, one could argue that the 2015 won't be a mustang. ; )

Ford learned a lot from the Boss 302 program. I am sure there is a chance of a similar motor transplant, but they will not be usuing the name "Boss 302" anymore. Also keep in mind, this will be the new bodystyle, with IRS.

A 2 year boss 302 run and never to be made again????   Sounds like what Ford did back in 73 when they supposedly made the last convertible and lots of people bought 73 convertibles and stashed them thinking they would be worth big bucks.   Then years later they brought back the convertible.
Ford will produce whatever they can that will sell and make them a buck.  They have no loyalty to previous buyers.  They have your money and strive to make more money off new buyers, so if theres a market for a car and Ford can produce it and make a profit, they will.  It's the great american way.  It's all about business.  Ford wont turn down an opportunity to produce a car and make a profit, just because a very limitied amount of people purchased a very limited number of cars with the notion they would be collectable.

I mean really...they made the 69/70 and that was suppose to be it...then they made the current modern day boss 302.  Ford has already shown they will bring back a good thing if it makes them money.

These are purely "image" cars for Ford, and not real profit makers. To be competitive in todays market, is hard. You're right, it is all about the business - at the end of the day. However, I am pretty sure the Boss 302, is a done deal (especially with the bodystyle change), as they did with the Ford GT. We may see a similar engine transplant, but the name will go away.

Anyone who intends to buy a new car, or who did buy a new car with a predominant notion that it would be collectable and/or "worth something someday" is a fool in my opinion.

The bottom line here is that Ford is in business to make money. They have the right to do so in anyway so long as it is legal. If people keep buying Boss 302's, Ford will keep making them. They'd be a fool not to. This is why new GT500's keep being made.  Ford lost money on every GT they made, this is why they stopped production. It is what it is, I personally think it would be great if production continues.

I personally do not have a problem with it either. I bought my 2012 Boss LS because its an amazing machine, and does everything so well, plus the history behind its livery. My value will come, when my odometer hits 100,000 miles on it. (IMO) There is no fun, in watching them sit in the garage. I wish these dealerships would ease up on these stupid Mark-ups, so that others can have a shot at owning one.

Ford has said all along that they are following tradition with the Boss 302.  The 5.8L Gt500 engine is 355 cu. in.  2014 Boss 351?   Just a thought.

According to a friend who is a big wig at the local Ford dealer, the Boss 302 name is done. He is under the impression that the Boss 302 engine may be available as in upgrade for a GT in 2015, but it will not be a Boss 302. It will be branded as a GT. This is all just speculation of course. He also thinks the next "special mustang" will be the return of the "SVO" badge mustang. We shall see...

Personally, the reason I purchased my 2013 Boss was because I wanted a performance car that I could drive and enjoy, and didn't want to spend over 50K.  By far the Boss was the best option.  Not so sure that any of the new makes and models will have the collectability that we have seen with past low production models.  Maybe if it is a extremely low mileage and in mint condition there may be collectable value.  But how many $s does it take to justify letting a car like the Boss sit in the garage vs the driving experience you get behind the wheel.  I am glad Ford built the Boss, but they didn't do it with the idea of making money they did it for reputation.  So I am ok if there is another production year. It is cool to be part of the elite group and that will not change.
