Yes, the white vapor usually means fuel is leaking into the motor, but power valve should be the cause of that. How does the spark look? If you pull a plug and reconect it to the wire, lay it on the strut tower brace and crank, do you have a blue spark or a little yellow one? What are you running for ignition? stock duel point or MSD, Pertronix? Could be condensor if points.

could be leaking past needle and seat - fuel pressure would drop - can u see any fuel dripping out of boosters(after shutting engine off of course)?

Running MSD box and coil. I replaced the needle and seat when I put the kit in the carb last week. Have not seen any drops after shut down. I'm running 7" on idle so I went with a 3.5 power valve. Before rebuild, I had about 5" is the reason for the 3.5 power valve. Any and all help greatly appreciated. It sucks not to be able to drive it with this new tranny. Well, I can drive it but not stop anywhere except back home,LOL.

What carburetor do you have on it?

The proform main body is not compatible with all holley metering blocks. You my want to check your numbers and call proform.
Many people had problems with this combination.

If you are using Holley metering blocks, did you happen to check and make sure they were not warped before putting the carb together?

I'm willing to try anything cause i changed the power valve and same thing-won't crank.  I have a white vapor trail coming out of the carb after shutdown??????? Is this a sign that fuel is still running into the carb?? thanks,jt.

Jerry

I am confused.  In one instance you say it won't start and another instance it won't crank (meaning to me it won't turn over).  Which is it?  Two totally different problems.

If idle is a stable 7" hg,  use a 6" hg power valve. It will enrichen quicker when accelerating.

You never responded to my first questions.

I have to disagree with Mike on the total timing.  Unless you are having detonation,  36 total is usually the sweet spot.  The drag racers might run a little bit more.  The proof of the pudding is to get it running and then on a chassis dyno to get everything dialed in.

I would add than incompatible metering to block to body could be cause of leakage as well?

Rad, it spins over great, just will not fire up and crank(run). Let it sit for 30-40 minutes and then it will crank(run and runs very good).
This is the same carb I had on the motor before the rebuild and it has been on the car 6 years or so. Will check when I get home this evening again to see if it is holding pressure cause it has not been cranked in 2 days. Also, going to check the spark while I try to crank it to see if it is good by the suggestion earlier with the plug out of the car hooked up to the plug wire.

Check the voltage at the coil (+) when cranking and at the 'I' post of the starter solenoid when cranking.

Do you have a spare coil you can try on it?

Are you running a electronic ignition module (MSD, etc.).

Sounds like a electrical / electronic heat soak issue if you are not having fuel bowl drain back flooding the engine.???

If you are running points, try changing the condenser. It's worth the 5 minutes and $5 to try. The condensers they've been making the last ten years or so are junk (thanks, EPA) and are nothing but trouble and annoyance.

it's gonna leak down after 2 days but shouldn't in 30 minutes - start car, warm up,shut off and check pressure
