1970 Boss 429 For Sale Calypso Coral with White Interior
« on: October 09, 2015, 04:06:55 pm »
Arguably the most desired Boss 429 built in 1970, KK 2433 is Calypso Coral with a white interior. This car is 1 of 13 made in this color combination and 1 of only 3 (now 4) documented cars known to exist. This car recently received a no expense spared concourse correct restoration. This is one of the finest examples of a 1970 Boss 429 that has been inspected on a lift by renowned Boss 429 expert Ed Meyer and used as a tech car to demonstrate correct restoration techniques at the International Mustang meet in Missoula, Montana in September.

The car was never molested and retains all original body panels. 12,000 miles were accumulated when the bottom end of the engine let go during a test drive in 1973. Previous owner installed a 351C and put another 9,700 miles on the car until it was disassembled in 1975 for a restoration that was never finished. When I had it restored in 2015 the car was stripped down to bare metal, epoxy primered  and then painted in single stage acrylic urethane enamel. There was no rust evident anywhere on the car.
Almost all parts used in the restoration were original or NOS. Engine block was rebuilt although not  the original it is as close as you can get (came from KK 2444). The heads, carb, intake, transmission, eng fan, fan guard, p/s pump, p/s cylinder, space saver spare, inflator bottle, rad, rev limiter, oil cooler and lines and rear differential are all original to the car and all have been restored to original condition.
The interior has had the original bezels rechromed using the  original door panels and NOS upholstery and headliner. The original wheels have also been restored. Original Kar Kraft invoices, Marti report, litter bag and all prevalent literature as well as a complete photo library of restoration.
Far too much too list
 $400,000 US.

some of the posted pictures are older pics but the corrections were made now & should have some better updated pics since the IMM montanna meet last month. I think that color combo is very pretty.

Donald farr & I am writing up the sales story for this b9 jan 14th mecum fl. & photos have been taken for this feature star car sat afternoon for the sales book coming out dec. We decided to run the 70 b9 there since only 1 other 69 b9 will be there as of now anyway & not 7 like last year as that's WAAAAAY TOOOO many b9s at one auction.

Well so much for that thought as I now see 2 more b9s listed on mecum fl. auction & don't know where they got the mca gold award listed on the orange/white int.b9 as that car was never at mca show & that will be corrected as soon as Donald sends mecum our updated description.  No b9s listed at BJ scottsdale yet anybody know of any going ?

It might help to know where the car needs to be picked up.

I am not towing there but others might be.

We just got kk 2433 here at fl. mecum yesterday after working  thru dec. doing final detailing & fixing mostly small things to improve this rare 70 b9 after it was delivered to our shop after MCACN show where it got a gold losing 14 points but after going over the car in our shop on a lift & having plenty of time my list was much longer & we got most items fixed before mecum. You have to have a car on a lift & have the time & a good lite & not be bothered to really inspect a car since there are to many areas of the car you cant see if car is sitting on the ground & crawling under a car on the ground to inspect it don't work to good especially if you are getting (husky ha ha)) in your old age. This 70 b9 has many nos & Most of its original parts stayed with the car over the years & a great rust free body. It has nos autolite fuel & oil & air filters & the first 70 b9 restored that i know of to have the 70 b9 820-a solid lifter 725 rpm  doae # timing decal under the hood as after finding one last summer on a low mile original 70 b9 I had this unique decal made & also this 70 b9 has the 70 warranty letter with it after finding one of them last year I had a copy made. This 70 b9  # s98 sells this sat. if anyone is interested.

I would rather have an original rustfree panel car, that is correctly restored, with an engine that's a few digits off than a pos rustbucket with the #'s matching block. Great color too. Good luck Ed.

Interesting,   I made an offer on this car some time back.  After the fees he would have been ahead on my cash price.

I saw this car in Tulsa and Chicago...very, very nice. I also made an offer that would have netted the seller much more.
Just my opinion, but cars of this quality should not go to auction for several reasons.

I think there were a lot of cars sold at this auction where the seller would have done better on their own. Dealers bought some of them and now will ask the high buck. EBAY would have served some of the sellers better.

........and offers you guys made on this car should stay between you and the seller, not posted on the web. He took it to auction because he knows the car is worth more to and end buyer than the lowball offers coming from resellers that have to leave meat on the bone for a guaranteed profit. Most Boss cars that are for sale have never been judged, had corrections made and then rejudged to get a gold. This seller made sure his car is among the best and advertised here first. Cars of this quality should sell privately but seller is in Canada where buyer pool is smaller and timing is everything. Auction was his last resort. He surely doesn't need to visit this site later and be reminded by you guys that had he accepted lowball offer he would have netted more.  He already knows that.

it is a very nice BOSS 9,  MY thoughts its a 325-350k car.....he must have lowered the reserve
during the sale .., does both the buyer and seller pay 10%  like barrett-jackson ?

With a current 1.32 /1.00 exchange rate, it gives Canadian sellers a positive advantage and justification to sell at this time. If it's just a numbers game, there no issue here. Just my 2c.

Thanks for all of the comments both positive and negative. I am an amateur that stumbled upon a premier car by life's circumstance and appreciate all of the help that I had open to me from this forum. I acknowledge that I had more lucrative offers, but by the time they came in I was committed to auction as I could not import the car into the US for sale unless I had a sales agreement complete with a federal tax number when I brought it across the border. When it went on the auction block I did not know if previous offers were still open, and the auction agreement extended for sales up to 21 days after the auction, and there was flexibility in the auction fees which netted me the same as the initial low ball offers, so I made the decision based on what I knew at the time and my current employment situation. As a side note I was also offered the original block for my car which was obviously a restamp as the original block was destroyed during a test drive in 1973 and is in the local landfill.

I would like to thank Ed Meyer for his invaluable advice and access to unobtainable parts in order to make this restoration possible. I would also like to thank Arild Thu for his knowledge and abilities in completing this concours restoration. People like these gentlemen turn this hobby into a profession and I appreciate the opportunity to meet the icons. Thank you Jerry Heasley for photographing the car. Thank you Ed Meyer & Donald Farr for the write up for the auction listing. Thank you Jason Billups for the impartial judging. This was a bucket list opportunity which is now fully checked for better or worse.

Ed
