KK1826, I think you are correct, look at the links below, KK1520 was at the Mecum aution and there is a video of the same car at the Russo and Steal aution. The picks from Lengendary and the two autions all have the same fire wall markings!!

Thought I'd bump this thread as I may be in S. Ontario this summer and possibly may stop by Legendary Motorcars to view, not buy, the cars.

To me it is interesting that they never give the KK number of the B9s they have listed for sale. At this time they have 3 for sale:

I think that number may be an inventory number. Pretty certain it is not the KK number

Reading the listing on the red car, I wonder why people are finally going to realize that KK 1479 was not the last S engine car?  They may have only built 279 (although I've still never seen that documentation), but later KK numbered cars got the engines whether they were leftovers or whatever.  We have a number of examples.

No, But there is paperwork that shows if S or T Motors were at KK when the cars were there by date. Most motors were shipped in batches of 8-14 and the invoice noted 820-S or T. Some were a bit out of order so a few later cars got 820-S motors.

Bob - how does a Boss 429 owner go about getting the paperwork you have for our cars?  I have sent you an email and a letter, with no response.  I believe most owners would like to put the paperwork with the car.

Bergy, you can't visually discern between an 820-S design engine and an 820-T design engine when they are assembled, unless the engine assembly is fitted with the original aluminum metal engine ID tag.  The tag will indicate either 820-S or 820-T.  However, you still don't really know for certain that what is inside are the OEM original components or even OEM original style components (OEM FoMoCo replacement components).

The differences between the two engine designs are found in the rotating internal components that comprise the short block assembly, the crank, rods, pistons, and camshaft, which are all hidden from view in a completely assembled engine.

You could have an example of a BOSS 429 Mustang with THE born with cylinder block and the internal components may be practically ANYTHING that will fit and function.

Why some self-ordained pundit makes the claim that the 820-S design engine is "preferable" or, as Legendary's advertisement claims, "the much more desirable "S code" engine" is beyond me.  The only real issue is that the very early produced BOSS 429 Mustangs seem to command a premium, and from that standpoint may be more desirable to certain collectors.  And, of course all of these "early" production BOSS Mustangs were equipped with the 820-S design engine.

If the 820-S engine design is so much more desirable than the 820-T design, can someone please provide us with some substantiating facts upon which such a conclusion can be reached?

Your car is a '70, so either a T or A engine.  I don't know of any '70s with an S.

Is your car numbers matching?  I believe you said it was but can't remember.  For a '70, if it's an HP429 cast block then it should be a T engine.  If it has an A cast instead of HP429, then it's an A engine.

Jeremy where did you get that 70 info about hp429 block vs A castblock  being T vs A   engine code?  I thought the 70 820 A code means 70 engine changes solid lifters , carb change . smog change, oilcap etc change  not the block cast id change of which most 70 b9s have a 820 A engine code except maybe the very early 70 b9s that got leftover 69 engines.

So - just for clarification - is there agreement that an 429HP block could be S, A, or T?  My car was shipped to Kar Kraft on 10/21/69.  Does that date help identify which it likely would be?

Ed, you would know better than I.  I assumed the A was for the block change to the A casting.  Solid lifters started getting put in the T engines at some point during the '69 run.  KK1692 was an unrestored T engine that the original owner through the third owner agreed it always had hydraulic lifters, but there are some later 69 with original solid lifters.
I don't know, documentation would help, but even build sheets don't specify S, T & A nor solid vs hydraulic lifters.

I appreciate you experts discussing this topic.  I worked at the Chevrolet Tonawanda foundry back in 1969.  The inventory at both the foundry and adjacent motor plant was definitely "first in last out".  Probably the same at Ford & Kar Kraft.  Production employees would just take whatever parts were most accessible for the next job.
