GS Johnson passed today
« on: October 22, 2015, 11:06:17 pm »
Steve's sister posted on his Facebook page today of his passing.
He was one of the true original good guys and his Boss 302 had become a legendary restoration...
We lost a great, and generous man and member today.
My best to his family...

Woah…what, GS passed? Yes, he was one of the "good ones"! My condolences to his family.
Current lifelong project:
1969 Mustang Fastback/FOX chassis, 6 speed, 4 wheel discs, with a modern Can-Am 494 (Boss 429), Kaase headed, intake mounted with a 1425 cfm 'B' Autolite Inline carb, ala Trans-Am style…Whew!

Very, very sad indeed!!  He was one of the first guys I connected with on the Boss site, we had the same taste in how a Boss 302 should look and also perform, lots of knowledge is gone!!  Loved his posts and opinions!
RIP GS, you were one of good guys in our hobby!
He WILL be missed, thoughts and prayers to his family!!

I am in complete shock. I was just thinking about him the other day. I can't believe it. I talked to him at the Knott's Ford car show about 5 or 6 years ago and he looked ok. What a great guy GS was, I remember driving to his work and having lunch every now and then. My condolence and prayers for his family. God speed GS I will miss you.

Gus

GS, was a great and very generous man, when we a group of us had the first BOSS registry "Hey, let's get together for lunch and talk BOSS cars" in the L.A. area I got the chance to meet him. He raised the bar on BOSS restoration, Maverick restoration, the moved on to Ferrari, and now Porsche.....sadly I was hoping to reconnect with him once the Porsche 356 project got started.

GS also found a way to share his friendship with Parnelli Jones by arranging a tour for the website of Parnelli's collection of race cars and memorabilia. Very giving

Once upon a time I was looking for a vintage Sun tach drive tach, GS had an NOS one. He handed me the tach drive tach and said "take it now we'll figure the price out later."  I brought the subject up later and still no price was figured out, this happened enough I finally got the hint. I start today off with a sad heart.

Although I never met him, his advice and comments will always be remembered after I bought my first Boss.

Health and family are everything.

Condolences to the family.

BOSS 302's are like a fabulous WI cheddar. Both get better with age and you buy them for your enjoyment, not as an investment.

Here's a link to his Boss 302, and his words on its restoration before he sold it.

I remember his being the first B302 to sell for 50k, that was a big deal...

GS was a good guy, I was sad to see him leave the BOSS community, and even sadder now to know that he's left this earth.

In memory of GS and so many others, and certainly being unaware of what took GS from his family and friends, I wanted to bring something up.  I've lost several relatives over the past few years to heart attacks, all without warning, out of the blue, and they were widowmakers.

Once you've turned 50, make an appointment with a cardiologist and have a stress test done -- every 4-5 years.  I just turned 50 and had it done.  If your insurance won't cover it, pay cash for it -- sell an air cleaner or some parts if you have to -- the most important part is ticking away inside your chest and when it stops...you won't need that air cleaner anyway.

Mine turned out fine, but a friend of mine, also 50, ended up with a quad bypass surgery.  Without it, he'd likely be dead today.

So in memory of all of our friends and family that have gone before us, think about your heart health.

RIP GS.  You will be missed.

RIP, GS. Thoughts and prayers to and for his family and friends. It is always sobering when one of our BOSS family passes.
As a tribute, start your BOSS at 3:02 tomorrow, or spend that moment beside your car in his memory.
