Couple questions
« on: May 21, 2016, 07:57:36 am »
#1
I have two sets of (vintage) Headman headers for SBF swaps into Pintos.
One set (NOS) has rectangle ports, the other oval : Why ? I have never seen a 302w with oval ports. Any ideas ?

#2
What are these called & where to get ?
They are aluminum. Measure a whisker over 13/16"

They are for my air dam:

Windsor on left.
Cleveland 2V on the right. Not vintage

Headman hasn't made the swap headers since the late 70s or 80s.
The oval port ones bolt up to 302w heads.
Also have to use front engine mounts.

They bolt (of course) to a 351w as well. But they will not clear the cross member of that taller engine.

Rectangle ones:

I had contacted Headman to see if these, as well as the same style for a B2 can still be purchased : no.
They had no idea where the jigs would be & had no interest in trying to make any.
Both sets measure up the same for clearance (height).

Have a couple pictures of a used set for 351C

I know a guy building a 71 Pinto with a 351C. He found a NOS set of these.

Cannot help but wonder how many sets are sitting on some back shelf in places all over the US & Canada.......

Kerry,
Both are for Windsor engines. Cleveland has the 'canted' (no pun!) exhaust bolt pattern as in Reeves last pictures. I also have seen Windsor round or square exhaust ports on headers  among different header companies. Btw, Reeves I believe Hooker made (or still does) an 'engine swap' header kit for the Pinto. That said, I have no clue as to what engine(s).
Current lifelong project:
1969 Mustang Fastback/FOX chassis, 5 speed, 4 wheel discs, with a modern Can-Am 494 (Boss 429), Kaase heads, intake mounted with a 1425 cfm 'B' Autolite Inline carb, ala Trans-Am style…Whew!

doh and I just bolted a set on yesterday. Of course the exhaust is diagonal, carry on forget I was here ;D

I just saw the small round ports and thought hey those look like my Hedman headers for the Oz 2V heads

The Hooker SBF headers look like this. Back 2 tubes go through the inner fenders, down by swing arms & behind the strut arms, under frame rail , to collectors. # 6061 I think.
These, of course, are not them.

These are 2" tubes to 3 1/2" collectors.

Fairly sure I posted this before ?

I think it was Herbert & Meek (?) that also used to make a swap kit.
I actually like these the best. Used in my first two Pinto swaps.

I was going to buy the top set not long ago. Let a "buddy" buy them & wanted him to have a builder make another set......he couldn't find one to do so.
2nd pic of a car that was for sale.

I think the crane fireball heads for the 289/302w had round exhaust ports
