Reunite RUG AV1 to correct Vin#
« on: December 29, 2016, 01:00:13 pm »
Hi Folks,  Just bought an RUG AV1 rebuilt and ready to go with this Vin consecutive number:  016998 on trans tag so Im guessing a Vin# 1F02R016998.  Would like to reunite this trans with the correct car if anybody has any ideas on how to do that.  My Boss 351 Vin# is 1F02R218306 needs the original trans also, would love to find that if anybody know how to do that.  Thanks

Transmission tag serial number will not match the vehicles serial number.  The vehicle serial number should be stamped on the top left ear of the transmission where it bolts to the bell housing and visible from the top.

The statement above is correct and to add that the partial Vin stamp that appears on the year of the transmission is also the one that should be on the Block just below where the driver side head bolts on facing the rear. If you are a Facebook member I highly suggest you join our 1971 boss 351 group. We have lots of guys in there with a lot of great knowledge on these cars and they are a great resource for parts because many of them have been Gathering them over the years.

Hi

Tried to tell the guy in Tucson all the info when he was on facebook trying to sell.    Once the priced dropped below the FIRST $1800 price it was smart to buy especially sub $800!

That trans 16998 is from an earlier M code car. (1F130191)    Not sure all the banter about the "wrong tailshaft" he said BUT I would confirm the guts to know if you have the right gear sets for a Boss.    And if you do consider keeping for your car !!   SO many state "I don't care about numbers and YOU CAN'T SEE WHEN DRIVING so ...........if you need a trans you have one.  (and at a great price)

Mark
P.S.  BUT I would always choose to rebuild ANY used transmission as it is too hard to take out after building becasue you assumed the parts were good!
