'69 w/ Boss 302, 4-speed (wide-ratio).  Bright Yellow, Black Interior.  Docs.  In IN for $65k.

9F91G582888

^According to the seller (Ray Skillman Classic Cars), the car still bears the VIN-stamped transmission, but it has a service replacement engine block.
I informed them that the VIN-stamped engine has been found and is available for purchase, but they declined.

I now have this motor #582888.  I purchased it for my Boss 302.  From what I saw on previous posts its too bad the car owner did not seem interested in this motor.  It will be going in my Boss 302 this winter.

Any interest in trading for a service replacement engine? I  currently own a 1969 boss 302 mustang with a  strong running service replacement D1ZE. Or possibly trade the balancer and timing cover. You will need to if you plan on installing in a 1970.

Thanks for the offer but my winter project will be getting under way soon.  Will be installing this motor in my 70 Boss 302.

Did I read this correct? or was the block part of a complete engine for $7,000.00.

"Dan Schoneck has the original “582888” VIN-stamped Boss 302 block available for $7k"
Parts are parts, cash is only money and doesn't have the same value. You get that right?

Pretty much, yeah.  And the dealer that has the car declined to buy it.

If it was a complete engine.....that was a stupid move. If it was just the block and being ransomed....not cool.

I don't know that it was being ransomed, exactly.  I think the dealer wanted to get it for the price of a block, while the seller had it priced as a rebuilt engine, ready to go.  Dealer has been trying to sell the car at $65k for ages now, and likely would not see any increase in profit by installing the original block back into the car.  No money in it for them, so they decided to pass.

Here is the link to the engine from when it was first listed for sale, with pics.

I did send an email to the dealer (ray skillman classic cars) and did not get a reply back.  This is the original motor for the car he is selling.

Oh well.  It is going in my car and once it is there it will not be coming out.

I see that the Cougar Eliminator 9F91G582888 did sell at Mecum in Indy.  Hope he knows I have the motor for his car.  I did notify the dealer before the auction to let the new buyer know.

Either the dealer did not let the buyer know or the buyer doesn't care for the original motor.  Dealer said he passed my info along but I have not heard anything.  Since I have not heard anything I am moving forward putting in my Boss 302.  Can't say I did not try.

Well, that stinks.  But you can only do so much, right?

Ah well, if / when the car shows up again I'll be sure to update this post, or otherwise put the owner in contact with you.

Thanks for trying, Greg!

Mike,
Sounds good.  However, the motor will likely not come out after I get it in my car.
