I have sold at Russo, BJ, and Mecum and I believe the BJ no reserve format is the best. They attract the affluent buyers and promote the cars better than the rest. Mecum is just pushing too many cars with too many auctions, and the quality is suffering because of the frequency. Don't like the Mecum selection this month? No problem, there's another one in 30 days! And another and another and another! It makes our cars seem abundantly available.
I alos find the practice of the reserve auction houses bidding the cars up to be tacky, condescending to buyers, and artificial. Anyone that has seen them fumble around trying to figure out if they have a real bid on a car or not knows exactly what I mean. None are perfect, and anything can happen, but at least BJ seems transparent in the bidding process.
I do prefer Mecum's payout on auction day to BJ's three week hold!!
Thanks to all for the best wishes. Stop by Lot 1338 1968 GT500KR or 1410 B9 to say hello if you are at BJ.
