Stage 1 or Grand National/Regal Turbo
« on: September 14, 2018, 09:12:45 am »
Ok, boys which ONE would you own/vote for: 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 or a 1987 Buick Grand National/Regal 3.8 Turbo? Remember, you can only pick one!

1969 Mustang Fastback/FOX chassis, 6 speed, 4 wheel discs, with a modern Can-Am 494 (Boss 429), Kaase headed, intake mounted with a 1425 cfm 'B' Autolite Inline carb, ala Trans-Am style…Whew!

The '70 Buick GS without question.   I don't care for big block engines but it is not only quick but it's a nice car.  They ride well and the styling is very pleasant.  Buicks were good cars.

The other one...........no comment as to the styling.  If  that can be considered styling.

Stage 1.  Fast, good looking car.

As stated, 1980,s GM styling left a lot to be desired.

Grand National as I never liked the 68-72 GM A body lines, but have always liked the angular and square features of the GN cars especially in the black.  Stage 1 in a different body things might be different.

1970 GS 455 Stage 1. My first car as a junior in high school in 1978. Burgundy with white interior, black vinyl top. Bench seat with column shift automatic. Did a little street racing with it. $5 Sunoco 260 drive for hours.

+1 for a Grand National.  They still look good and even better than some new cars today.  I had an 84 GN.  Great looks and sound.  One of those that I wish I had kept.

I had an 84 Buick GN, until the 86 intercooled cars arrived..Traded the 84 for the 86, and still have it, as a daily driver.  Very few issues in 30 years, still orig engine with 185,000 miles.
Also own a 1989 Turbo Trans Am with the Buick turbo motor.
I have always like the Buick GSX, a guy in high school had one.
BUICK GN FOR THE WIN!

Scott you lost me at turbo. And the eighties styling doesn’t skid my wheels.
It’s the 455 Stage 1 by a country mile

Bruce,
The Regal 'turbo' was the same car, yet in a sleeper package unlike the sinister black 'Darth Vader' Grand Nationals.
Here is a pic of a 1987 Regal Turbo.

Scott my apologies. I’m consistently poor at a shortchanging a sentence.
Of the two options, I would choose the 70 GS 455 stage 1...
Come on son you’ve got to start making these a bit harder!!

Repost this question on a Facebook group and see what the (age) answers are !  LOL

Personally, I would hold out for the GNX of each car !   (the only way you make money is to choose rare cars)

Yes, the 'age' of the pollsters will show what generation they like. Since Im of the 1980s generation, I actually like both…. I do tend to prefer the '70 Buick GSX (in yellow) Stage 1 over the '87 GNX…That said, I would gladly have both parked in my garage!

I would definitely pick the Stage 1.  Got to drive one a couple of times and while quite a boat by Mustang standards it was a very fast boat. ;) ;D

Local guy I know bought one of the black Buicks new and has put only 2000 miles on it last time I saw him at a funeral 4-5 years ago.  Can't remember if it's the Grand National or the GNX version..  I thought they looked pretty good compared to what else was available at the time.  I had an 87 Olds 98 Touring Sedan that looked similar that I always liked the looks of.  Below is a picture of a car identical  to mine I snagged on the web.  Big leather seats was the best part. ;) ;D
