1970 Boss 302 Top Loader 4 speed
« on: October 14, 2018, 08:18:55 pm »
I just purchased for a project the following: 1970 Boss 302 Top Loader 4 speed. It has the following numbers RF C8AR-7006-D with tag RUG-AW and a partial VIN of 9102. Not sure if this one is still out there or not.

Hmm... what are the casting dates?  That might help narrow down a potential VIN.

Might also be for a 351 car also … both the AW transmissions I have came out of 351C mach1's

I'm sure Marti could figure it out for you, but it might cost more than the transmission.....

If you look at VIN Dates codes 109XXX - 159XXX , so 109, 119,129,139,149, 159 for the Boss 302 (Excluding 351's) then that would be the date range of production for AW. If you look at the serial number on the RUG AW tag and its a low number 010001 - thru 0104XX then that puts it in the first part of production 8/69-11/69. Most Boss 302's for 1970 got RUG-AW's until Ford did the switch to AW1's 3/1/1970 due to an engineering change. Unless you get a really clear date code on the case it will be hard to read....but at least you can kinda narrow it down.
