Rear Louver Questions/ Help
« on: September 09, 2019, 08:27:09 pm »

Are the rear louvers supposed to have a rubber pad down the centre support for each rib?

As far as fit goes, does the Louver rubber trim fit just up to the window steel trim on sides and top  when resting on the glass or does it have to be tucked a bit under the steel trim?

What is the measurement from the end point of the bottom of Louver to the inside edge of the metal window trim?

Are there mounting instructions that Ford ever put out?

I think there is just one rubber pad, the center "spine" part has an arch to it so it really should only touch the glass at the bottom.

My rubber trim tucks in between the metal trim and louver, makes a little U channel most of the way around, not so much near the bottom where it's not pulled down as hard like it is at the top.  Mine has about 3/16" gap at the bottom.

I haven't seen instructions for them...

My original unrestored 1970 Dearborn built Mach 1 has 2 center spine pads. 1 at the second lover and 1 at the bottom louver. My 70 Boss 302 Metuchen built car also has 2. The louvers are original to the cars. I have owned the Mach 1 since 9/73.

My BOSS 302 that was built at the Dearborn Plant on Feb. 26, 1970 has the sport slats option and has pads on the second and fifth louver.  The slats are so firmly pressed against the rear window that I rarely remove them to clean the window.  I looked at the 1970 Ford Car Shop Manual and couldn't find anything on the slats and wonder if there is anything in the 1969 manual. - Mark

Yes that's true. In November 70 I was working at a Ford dealer in western NY and prepped a 71 Boss 351 for a customer. Back then the new model years came out in mid September. New 71 model year cars were shipped to the dealer in late September early October of 1970. Those were great times. But as we all know that was the last year of potent Fords. Big blocks anyways.
