70cj428,
Never knew about the "DOT" (Department of Transportation) thing, Very cool!
Thanks for sharing that.
Just to add....there were problems with the early Space Saver Spare.
People were sometimes injured while inflating the spare with the canister. Remember Ford was not the only one using the Space Saver.
This caused Ford to send a letter in the mail to All Registered Owners that explained that the Space Saver Spare tire MUST be mounted to the car Before inflating. A yellow with black printing stick and peel label was included and Read:
1. Peel carefully from this corner.
2. Mount the label on the Space Saver Spare "TM" wheel near valve in clean, dry area.
I remember getting the letter in the mail, I think in 74, I put the sticker on the rim and it's still there. Have the mounting instructions of the Beer fridge door, but the yellow has faded out.
Got what's left of the build sheet, got the buck tag...so why the Hell did I not save this letter from Ford......... talking to my buddy and member "Metalmovers" it's because we were into Racing them.
We never thought about collecting or restoring them.
