found old picture, snow storm
« on: October 12, 2019, 06:56:05 am »
I found this picture of me and the BOSS in a snow storm from the late 70s.   We didn't have a garage and it was my dad's daily driver.

** that is a massive car across street  :)

I remember those kinds of snows we would get. Digging tunnels out to the sidewalk just to get to school which by the way, we walked to.

Cool picture. And where is the car today?

BOSS 302's are like a fabulous WI cheddar. Both get better with age and you buy them for your enjoyment, not as an investment.

I am not sure where you live but I remember a giant snow storm in 1977.  I know the year because I was in high school and me and a friend made a few bucks with shovels.  We didn't charge the older folks!

I too remember the blizzard of 77. I lived on Lake Ontario and worked at Eastman Kodak. I was stuck home for 2 days as I couldn't get to work. As bad as the storm was it paled in comparison to the Blizzard of 66. Now that was a storm. It crippled allot the northeast for a week. Everything was totally shut down.Luckily we did not lose power. Even the town and state highway snow plows could not clear the roads for several days. Houses were completely buried. Folks were stranded every where. My Dad was stuck at Eastman Kodak for 5 days where he worked as an auto mechanic. We had some folks going around the neighborhood taking orders for milk and bread on their snow mobiles. No talk about Global Warming in those days. ;D

Even down here in Kentucky we were hit hard in '77.  Deep drifts, etc.  My father-in-law worked for Codell Construction and they were out with heavy equipment trying to help clear roads.

I can tell you from experience that trying to drive a BOSS 302 in the snow is no fun!

Gotta love the wagon in the driveway across the street. I miss those old grocery-grabbers

Now-a-days instead of station wagons the grocery-grabbers have turned into these things called SUVs.

I remember that storm in 66 as well.  The memory is a bit foggy because I was 4 years old but I remember everything being shut down.  I have a vivid memory of my dog at the time going out back and burrowing through the snow.  Once in a while I would see him pop up because I think he needed to check where he was.  I lived in southern Ontario and I think it was something like 3 feet.

Current lifelong project:
1969 Mustang Fastback/FOX chassis, 6 speed, 4 wheel discs, with a modern Can-Am 494 (Boss 429), Kaase headed, intake mounted with a 1425 cfm 'B' Autolite Inline carb, ala Trans-Am style…Whew!

First Boss 302 I saw in person was in 1978.  I worked at a local grocery store as a teenage kid.  Joliet, Illinois.  I was sent out to collect grocery carts in a raging snow storm and here comes this grabber yellow b302, shaker, rear spoiler, slats and magnums covered in snow.  It drove right past me and stopped me dead in my tracks.  The image of that car is still burned in my brain.  Thanks for bringing it out again!

Just curious, since it was your Dad's daily driver did he have snow tires on it?

It was considered a fun car back then as your daily driver. You drove it through winter, spring, summer and fall.
