69 / 70 Boss Front Caliper Type and Orientation
« on: January 11, 2020, 03:23:45 pm »
So... did a search and didn't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to buy a set of rebuilt calipers for the day I go back to stock and got a set of nice coated calipers from NAPA. The problem is that they are different castings from what I took off my car. Now, I have no idea if my calipers removed from the car were original.

So I'm looking for a picture of the back (near the shield) to see if I should have the casting that resembles a tear drop or the one that looks like it is wider casting... right near the bleader screw.

Hope that makes sense. This is for a 69 car, but I'll be running 70 spindles (not that this matters for the calipers).

Thx!

So I took a picture of what I'm looking to get some confirmation of.

The caliper on the far right is what came off the car (both sides had similar castings). The two black ones on the left are what came as replacements. What I'd like to know is which style (if it matters) would be more correct? The tear drop style in the center or they thicker casting on the far left.

As I said before, i'm pretty sure the calipers that came off the car were replacements long ago.

Thx J_Speegle

Those look very similar to the ones I removed and not the teardrop style I have in the picture I posted.

Are these original to the 69 car?

Thanks Steve.

Looks like the ones you have are the teardrop. That's what it looks like behind the sheetmetal.

Can anyone tell me which is correct or are they both acceptable for our Boss cars?

I have one of each that are new and I'm going to get more to make them match... just want to make sure I match correctly.

Are these original to the 69 car?

Thinks the shield makes it difficult to see in the picture. Sorry That car has 30k miles on it don't believe they had been changed out but not the original owner. Car is from the 9F188xxx period. Car is not home for me to go out and get a clearer picture but offer the additional examples below that are clearer on the shape of th emain body

Allot of pictures don't show the detail your looking for but here are a few unrestored examples from 69 that show more than others. Didn't look for 70's

9F196xxx

9F built in the spring

9F4821xxx

9F4827xxx

Sure I can find more if needed but there seems to be a trend in these examples

So these appear to be the teardrop / pear shape.

Steve,
What rotors are in those pictures? Are they thicker than stock (.94)?
